Custom Woodworking shop assistant needed

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Aplica ya

Hi.

My name is Andrew. I'm the owner, head honcho, floor sweeper, supply runner and ultimate wood dust maker at Woodworks on Carpenter. I work with some very nice clients across the region on dozens of projects a year. Mostly custom design and build, shared with a substantial amount of historical restoration and antique repair. Honest, its a pretty cool deal. Everyday it's something new. One day we're researching 17th century finishes in order to accurately recreate them. The next day scraping and stripping some new life into an heirloom chair or a corbule or a window. The nexthandcrafting a sapele gate with a $40000 CNC for a South Philly garden. It's always new and it's alot of hard work and it feels like you've accomplished something at the end of the day that has some worth.

Here's the deal

After quite a few years at my current location at the the 1241 Carpenter Studios, I need to expand. From some combination of good fortune, good quality and good customer service, I'm now in the position where I'm busy ALL the time and it's too much for one person to handle. Soafter months and months of looking around, I've finally found a new home just south of Allegheny , at The Loom, a large multi use arts and commerce development. Our neighbors, just on our floor will be a brewery, painters, graphic designers, a clay studio.and the list goes on.

THIS PART IS IMPORTANTThe first couple of months you'll be working at 12th and Carpenter. By January first it'll all be based up on Amber and Willard sts in Port Richmond. YOU must have reliable transportation.

I just signed the lease starting for December 1st and I need an assistant. Some person with experience with wood and at the very least basic cabinetry tools. At first it'll be mostly about helping with the transition from one location to the other, setting up the equipment, moving a ton of heavy shit, keeping the shop in decent orderyou get the picture. But after the move, its a hell of alot more. I'm currently booked out to next June with amazing projects, with more rolling in, and I need your hands and brain.

I promise you these things.

At the end of the day you'll be tired.

You'll have learned something new.

You'll get paid well ( and on time ) in the hopes you want to stay happy and want to grow along with the company.

You'll be treated with respect and dignity.

Here's what I expect from you

Show up on time with a decent fucking attitude. Seriously. Huge red flag if I can't count on you to keep your word for the small things. and for god's sake, keep the phone use down to a minimum.

Be open to learning new and often complex things quickly. I'm patient to a fault but it's got to start with you giving a rat's ass, ya know? To put it more bluntlythe more valuable you make your self by learning new skills the quicker I can justify paying you more and giving you more independence.

Be kind. That means to ANY co-workers you may have. I'm hugely intolerant towards the intolerant. Nuff said.

Be able to lift heavy items. We routinely need to lift and move large pieces of wood, furniture and equipment.

Have a valid driver's license.

Everything else is gravy.

Feel free to go check out the work I do at IG: woodworksoncarpenter and if the range of work seems to be to your liking, send me an email through Craigslist. Messages through Instagram will NOT be returned.

So, there you have it. Simple deal really. You show up on time, work hard when you need to, laugh a little, learn fun new things about wood and woodworking and in exchange, you get to work for a dope boss who'll pay you on time, treat you with respect and who's hoping you'll want to grow along with the company.

Andrew
