Lighting Restoration & Assembly Technician (Part-Time)

Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Aplica ya

Provenance is a Philadelphia-based architectural salvage company specializing in vintage and reclaimed materials. Our showroom is filled with storied pieces—antique doors, reclaimed wood, ironwork, and period lighting—waiting to be restored and reimagined. We’re a small team with a big passion for craftsmanship, history, and creative problem-solving.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a part-time Lighting Restoration & Assembly Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on, shop-based role ideal for someone with a basic understanding of electrical wiring and lighting components, paired with a creative eye and appreciation for old things made new. You’ll work with everything from fully intact antique chandeliers to salvaged sockets and parts, helping us bring lighting back to life—primarily for in-store display, with occasional client installations.

Key Responsibilities:

Rewire and restore vintage and antique light fixtures, ensuring they meet current safety standards and electrical codes.

Creatively assemble lighting from salvaged components using appropriate materials and methods.

Clean, prep, and polish fixtures for showroom display, including minor repairs and restoration work.

Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized lighting work area.

Order and track necessary parts, tools, and supplies while maintaining awareness of budget and compatibility.

Clean and prepare newly acquired lighting inventory for the showroom.

Participate in regular facility cleaning and upkeep.

Communicate effectively with coworkers, clients, and vendors as needed.

Take direction well and ask clarifying questions to ensure tasks are completed accurately.

Contribute to the overall organization and smooth functioning of the shop—even during slower moments—by proactively identifying and completing necessary tasks.

Occasionally assist with shop activities or customer interactions, offering friendly and helpful service.

What We're Looking For:

Basic electrical knowledge and safe wiring practices.

Familiarity with lighting components, materials, and restoration techniques.

Creative problem-solving skills, especially when working with salvaged or incomplete fixtures.

Comfort with hand and power tools, including soldering irons, wire strippers, and multimeters.

Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.

Self-motivated with excellent organizational habits and time management.

Team player with a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.

Bonus: Familiarity with antique lighting styles and period-specific components (e.g., cloth wire, Bakelite sockets).

Bonus: Light metal or woodworking skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move items up to 40 lbs.

Comfortable working on ladders or with overhead fixtures when needed.

Able to stand or move around a shop space for extended periods.

Please email resumes with a cover letter to careers@provenance.com. Artists, designers and creators feel free to add portfolios of work. References encouraged and can be included in the email.

Thank you!
