Employment Type:Full timeShift:Day ShiftDescription:Nazareth Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is currently seeking a Full - Time certified Exercise Physiologist for our Outpatient Cardiopulmonary Rehab program. The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology or Exercise Science, completion of EKG course, BLS and ACLS certifications.Schedule: Full-Time, 9-hour day shift (Monday through Thursday)Position Qualifications Required:

Required Experience: Minimum of one year’s related health care experience.

Required Education: B.S. in Exercise Physiology or Exercise Science from an accredited school or University

Master's degree is Exercise Physiology preferred.

Ability to interpret basic EKG rhythms required.

Training / Certification / Licensure:

BLS and ACLS.

Completion of EKG course.

ACSM Exercise physiologist certification required

Specialized training in cardiovascular disease or cardiac unit experience preferred

Qualifications also include:

Strong knowledge of cardiac rhythms and arrhythmia recognition.

Strong knowledge of pulmonary diseases, including COPD and interstitial lung disease.

Critical thinking and judgment skills with the ability to evaluate patient response to exercise during testing/intervention.

Ability to multitask and work well under stress and in an emergency situation.

Ability to work interdependently.

Ability to develop an individualized exercise prescription for cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular patients based on clinical results of assessment and/or exercise stress test.

Ability to evaluate the patient's responses to exercise conditioning.

Strong interpersonal and educational skills required for patient and family education.

Demonstrates strong knowledge of cardiac risk factors and lifestyle modifications.

Responsibilities include:

Conducts inpatient chart review and patient education.

Supervises exercise sessions in Cardiopulmonary rehab.

Monitors patients' EKG, heart rate, blood pressure, pulse ox (as indicated) and rating of perceived exertion for inappropriate responses during exercise.

Sees that the patients adhere to the exercise prescriptions by adjusting equipment to individual needs during exercise.

Updates exercise prescriptions, as appropriate.

Documents patient’s response and changes in exercise prescription.

Reacts effectively to the unique needs of the Cardiopulmonary Rehab patient.

Instructs and leads patient in self-monitoring techniques, safe warm-up and cool down exercises and relaxation techniques.

Interprets and reports dysrhythmias.

Reports significant patient conditions to physician and staff immediately. Initiates emergency care (including CPR) according to departmental and hospital policies.

Develops outlines for and conducts educational sessions for inpatients and outpatients regarding risk factor modification, disease etiology and treatment.

Modifies approach to patient instruction/education based on needs, developmental level and background of the patient.

Conducts initial evaluation and orientation for patients entering the program and conducts discharge interviews for patients for patients exiting the outpatient program.

Obtains physician referrals for patient participation.

Identifies major risk factors for coronary artery disease for each patient entering the program and reviews and/or establishes modification strategies with each patient based on needs, age and background of the patient.

Encourage patient to be an active participant in his/her health care and help patient with modification plan to include diabetes management, HTN care, diet, exercise, depression, stress and smoking cessation.

Designs and writes exercise prescriptions for patients entering the monitored exercise program, the maintenance program or beginning of a home exercise program based on results of exercise stress test and information obtained from initial evaluation.

Maintains ongoing communication with physicians by writing progress reports and discharge summaries.

Maintains equipment in working order by cleaning, calibrating, troubleshooting, replenishing supplies and making minor repairs as needed. Reports equipment malfunctions and requests supplies immediately to supervisor.

Conducts medication reconciliation for patients entering Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab per policy.

Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement activities.

Performs other related duties as requested.

Participates in department specific growth initiatives to attain annual volume targets.

Participates in department specific patient satisfaction initiatives to meet annual goals.
