Apply for this job now!Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:The Behavior Specialist works as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assist residents with the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality services to support them in decreasing negative behaviors including but not limited to negative interactions with other residents and staff, discourteous behavior/cursing, and elopement, based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts behavior analytic assessments such as Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Quality of Life Inventory, and Antecedent, Behavior, Outcome (ABOs) to help residents create function-based, skill-level appropriate individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) aimed at increasing functional, social, leisure, communication, and vocational skills; peer interactions; and independence with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

Develops BSPs, and educates the interdisciplinary team on how to implement the details of the plan in order to effectively support staff and individuals served to produce positive outcomes and decrease undesirable behaviors

Provides modeling and training with staff on how they should interact with residents including but not limited to how to physically and verbally approach an individual to deescalate behaviors, providing rewards to residents, and understanding the likes/dislikes of residents; provides feedback to staff once behavioral plan is created and implemented to assist in creating an ongoing environment of recovery for the resident

Conducts observations and data collection (such as ABOs and progress notes) in the residential program setting to monitor data collection reliability and treatment integrity to ensure the BSP plan is accurate, making changes to the plan, when needed

Generates monthly progress reports to the ARBHS Senior Director, Unit Director, and Quality Improvement Coordinator that show the status of current interventions and effectiveness of the same for the resident and staff

Covers programmatic vacancies by working with individuals in a direct care role, when needed

Reviews behavior data sheets, incident reports, other programmatic documentation, and progress notes written by the interdisciplinary team to monitor for behaviors that may lead to changes in existing, or the implementation of new, behavior plans

Participates in clinical team meetings to evaluate current progress of each resident discussed, and whether the current behavior plan is supporting the residents; also gathers new information on those residents who need new/revised behavior support plans

Participates in periodic clinical team, case study panel, and interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings to provide clinical input about resident progress that helps promote high-quality outcomes for the residents

Attends psychiatric and medical appointments, when needed, to relay changes in medication or provide recommendations for further assessments; provides information to medical and psychiatric staff to ensure clinically driven decision making with the goal to produce positive outcomes

Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (FA), safe crisis intervention, and medication administration using agency-trained protocols

Performs other duties as assigned

CONTACTS: Elwyn staff, parents/guardians/families, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, consultants, supports coordinators, physicians, psychiatrists, and other outside agencies

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED with six (6) years' work experience in programs supporting people in behavioral health direct care and developing behavioral support plans

OR an associate degree in psychology, special education, social work, nursing, healthcare administration, public health or related field plus four (4) years of work experience in programs supporting people in behavioral health direct care and developing behavioral support plans

OR thirty (30) college credits in a combination of coursework in psychology, special education, social work, nursing, healthcare administration, public health or a related field plus four (4) years of work experience in programs supporting people in behavioral health direct care and developing behavioral support plans

Bachelor's degree in applied behavior analysis, psychology, special education, or related field or master's degree in ABA, psychology, special education, or related field with one (1) experience in programs supporting people in behavioral health direct care and developing behavioral support plans

Certified Alcohol and Other Drugs of Addiction Counselor, (CADC), ABA through certification boards preferred

Experience working with individuals with mental health diagnosis

Experience utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis preferred

Experience utilizing Positive Behavior Supports preferred

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities

Demonstrated strong attention to detail

Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills

Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision

Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions

Must be able to perform CPR and first aid, safe crisis intervention, and medication administration using agency-trained protocols

Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills

Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience in the United States, and acceptable driving record
