- Modeling dynamic systems, such as hybrid battery/electric powertrains, Asynchronous induction AC motors, Separately Excited DC motors, IGBT/rectifiers, Power electronics, or electrical circuit modeling using relays & contactors
- Deploying these plant & behavioral models through generation of real time code
- Validating model accuracy against locomotive field data
- Participating in simulator design/development as required to support the software validation group in testing new locomotive designs
- Maintain/update plant models of electrical machines/components for various requisitions.
- Maintain a configuration control system for dynamic system models
- Be capable of updating/building/reviewing MATLAB models and C/C code, supporting system troubleshooting in real time hardware in the loop test lab environment, and providing customer support.
- Work with subsystem design teams to identify new requirements to model locomotive systems using behavioral and physics based dynamic plant modeling
- Generate Real time C/C Code using Auto Code Generation tools like RTW/System Build.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting assigned projects
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Lead in following a strong software development process and provide working knowledge of standard software development tools including revision control and defect tracking.
- Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with modeling of any of the following, electrical machines/AC circuits/power electronics, using model-based-design tools, such as MATLAB Simulink w/ Simscape toolboxes and/or MatrixX/LabVIEW
- Minimum 5 years modeling experience with Bachelors
- Minimum 2 years modeling experience with Masters or higher
- Experience with Git version control process
- Knowledge of real time embedded systems
- Knowledge of Real Time Operating System like RT-LINUX/UNIX/QNX based systems
- Working knowledge of both software and electrical hardware design techniques, including the ability to read/understand schematics
- Understanding of Communication Protocols, such as UDP/CAN/RS-232/Ethernet/ARCNET
- Strong influencing skills and proven history of participating in successful teams.
- Master s or PhD degree of Engineering in Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge or experience working with hardware in the loop simulators and software modeling environments.
- Knowledge or experience with COTS HIL equipment like SpeedGOAT/OPAL-RT/NI PXI Chassis
- Knowledge or experience with real time operating systems including RT Linux and QNX.
- Knowledge or experience with UNIX-RT/LINUX Industrial Graded systems.
- Experience developing automated scripts using perl/python.
