UPMC Hamot, a Magnet-designated hospital, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the team on 5 South, a 46-bed medical-telemetry unit. This unit cares for a diverse cardiac patient population, including those with Coronary Artery Disease, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, and Arrhythmias, as well as medical patients with conditions like Pneumonia, Renal Failure, Chest Pain, and Pulmonary Embolism. $12,500 sign-on bonus for nurses with over one year of experience.

As an LPN on this unit, you will provide direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed UPMC provider. You will be part of a collaborative team focused on delivering quality care to patients recovering from various cardiac procedures such as TEE, Cardioversion, Pacemakers, and Cardiac Catheterizations.Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.Responsibilities:
Provide patient care and IV therapy according to UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines, policies, and State Board Regulations.
Actively participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, performing focused assessments in accordance with established guidelines.
Communicate with licensed professional nurses and the healthcare team to seek guidance when a patient’s care needs exceed the LPN's scope of practice, knowledge, or abilities.
Assist with new or unfamiliar nursing practices, ensuring proper instruction and supervision as needed.
Collaborate with the healthcare team and patients/families to develop a holistic plan of care that addresses the individual needs of each patient.
Accurately document patient conditions and care in a comprehensive manner that promotes effective communication between caregivers.
Provide patient education and support to patients and families throughout the care process, including transition to other levels of care or home.
Support the orientation and development of new LPNs and patient care support staff, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment.
Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and contribute ideas for improving patient care and workplace efficiency.
Engage in the revision and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the comfort and safety of patients.
Model professionalism, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and a commitment to patient care and colleague relationships.

Education: Successful completion and graduation from a Licensed Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience required.
IV Therapy: Successful completion of an IV therapy curriculum required within 4 months of hire or transfer. If you graduated in 2012 or later, the IV therapy curriculum is included in the PA State Board Approved Programs. If you graduated prior to 2012, you must provide official proof of completion of an approved IV therapy program.
Nurse Assignment: Must be able to take nurse assignments at the top of the LPN license in a med/surg/tele or Emergency Department setting.
Contributions: Must select and complete 2 contributions annually that will assist in improving patient care OR maintain a UPMC-approved certification and select and complete 1 additional contribution.
Skills and Abilities:

Physical Requirements: Mobility, manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Technology: Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
LPN Licensure: Must maintain state licensure in the state where practicing, or in a state covered by a multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement.
IV Therapy: If graduated prior to 2012, official proof of completion of an approved IV therapy program must be provided within 4 months of hire/transfer.
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
NIH Stroke Scale (NIH): Required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
Clearances: Act 34 and any other relevant state/federal clearances as required.
Additional Information:
Hires working with an out-of-state NLC license must apply for licensure within 60 days of changing residency to the state where the facility is located.
