Shift: 1st shiftJob SummaryThis position maintains and improves the control system reliability of automated production equipment. When production system performance falls below acceptable levels, they must support troubleshooting efforts to avoid or minimize interruptions to production. A successful controls technician has a keen eye for details an electrical aptitude and is very comfortable with computers and industrial controls software.Duties and Responsibilities

Lead troubleshooter for electrical/automation issues on their respective shift. Assisting other electrical and mechanical technicians with preventative maintenance, breakdowns and misc. work orders as needed.

Installs, configures, maintains, or replaces industrial control devices such as HMIs, VFDs, PLCs.

Responds to significant plant downtime events and initiates problem solving activities.

Support implementation and improvement of preventive/predictive maintenance programs.

Supports new equipment installation and startup.

Select and procure replacement or upgrade hardware.

Perform needed calibration of electrical control components.

Work with controls engineering on controls-related projects.

Evaluate electrical equipment operation and suggest necessary action when malfunctions occur, or improvements are needed.

Complete preventive maintenance work orders. Capture and communicate associated data.

Maintain plant electrical control systems on equipment such as mixers, conveyors, compressors, hydraulics, motors, pneumatics, and pumps.

Research information required to maintain hardware and modify software. Attend training classes.

Comply with regulatory, Carlisle, & departmental policies, procedures, & standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Experience with wiring and programming Allen Bradley CompactLogix and ControlLogix & GE/Emerson 9030 and RX3i PLCs controls Preferred.

Knowledge of PLC language (ladder logic, structured text, etc.) .

Proficient in configuring, modifying, and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, sensors, DC drives, VFDs etc.

Industrial electrical AC/DC troubleshooting skills.

Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems preferred.

High degree of skill with PCs and networking (installing software, changing adapter settings, navigating directory structures, change IP address, etc.).

Demonstrated ability to utilize electrical instruments, such as multimeters, in troubleshooting control systems.

Awareness of electrical codes such as NEC.

Inter-Personnel Skills - Including the ability to be a team player. The ability to pass on information & training to others.

Effective written and verbal communication.

Ability to interpret and redline electrical schematics.

Familiarity with electrical safe work practices.

Critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.

Understanding of OSHA and related industrial safety protocols.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED and degree from technical school, or industrial maintenance certifications (PLC, Machine Logic, etc.)

Equivalent experience: High School Diploma or GED and 5+ years experience working as a control technician in an industrial manufacturing environment

Technical military specialties considered

Equipment Used

Precision measurement equipment (gauges, measurement devices, etc.)

Electrical instrumentation (megohmmeter, multimeter, amperage monitoring systems, etc.)

Hand tools

Office equipment (computer, phone, etc.)

Computer systems (CMMS, SAP, MS programs)

Working Conditions

Activities occur inside an insulation manufacturing facility. Job includes but are not limited to exposure to the following.

Temperatures exposed to both Ambient/outside temperatures.

Nuisance dust, use of chemicals, working with mechanical parts, pinch points

Noise of industrial machinery

Typically, 40 hours per week with rotating overtime as required

Days/shift vary based on facility need; however, standard shifts are:

3 Fixed Shifts

1st Shift (7:00AM - 3:30PM)

2nd Shift (3:30PM - 11:00PM)

3rd Shift (11:00PM - 7:00AM)

Fast paced 24/7 operation

Physical Requirements

Lifting - must be able to lift up to 50lbs

Pushing & Pulling - must be able to push and pull up to 50 lbs

Bending & Stooping - must be able to bend and stoop while working on low areas of machines

Reaching - must be able to reach above shoulder level

Climbing - while using stairs or ladders

Walking - must be able to walk to and from different areas of the Carlisle campus

Standing - must be able to stand for the majority of the shift

Sitting - while working at computers

Sight - must be able to see and recognize hazards, warnings, and equipment malfunctions

Grasping & Dexterity - must be able to use fingers and hands to operate tools

Talking & Hearing - must be able to effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, management, and other employees on the Carlisle campus

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Used

Safety glasses, FR uniform, composite toe shoes, hard hat occasionally, dust mask occasionally, arc flash, safety gloves, face shields, hearing protection.
