Job Description

Title: Service Coordinator forResource Center & Safe Parking Program

Full time position 40 hours per week

Reports to: Executive Director of Just Compassion of East Washington County

Just Compassion of East Washington County is a Non-Profit community centered response for addressing the needs of homeless individuals by building relationships and aspiring towards wholeness.

Salary Range: $17.00 to $20.00 per hour

Job Overview: Just Compassion (JC) of East Washington County is looking for a Mission Driven Coordinator for the Resource Center for houseless adults. The Resource Center opened in January 2016 and is a safe place for adults to rest, socialize, and seek resources and support. In addition, the Service Coordinator provides oversight for Just Compassion Safe Parking Program in collaboration with the city of Beaverton. The Safe Parking Program provides individuals living in their vehicles with a safe place to park without being harassed or bothered while working on a plan to transition to move into housing. The coordinator will operate through the JC cultural values of advocacy, collaboration, empathy, reliability, inclusivity, and diversity.

Objective: Under the supervision of the Just Compassion Executive Director, the Service Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operations of the Resource Center and Safe Parking Program. This position coordinates services and provides onsite management for both programs. This includes opening and resourcing the center; providing oversight for volunteers and stipend staff; recruiting, training, and organizing volunteers, ensuring guests are taken care of and managing any conflicts that may arise. The Service Coordinator will provide oversight for the Safe Parking Program which includes monitoring the locations, case management for guests in the program and monitoring a wait list for those interested in the program. Finally, the Service Coordinator will attend weekly supervisory meetings with the Executive Director, provide weekly updates to community partners, and attend periodical meetings for Just Compassion.

The ideal candidate enjoys serving others and responds effectively and appropriately in stressful and difficult situations. This position also tracks the number of participants, volunteer hours and any other statistics needed. All data must be entered into the HMIS and/or other systems/software.

Required Skills: Demonstrate effectiveness at building supportive relationships with the houseless population and interacting with people from different backgrounds. Excellent organizational and administrative skills are essential. Effective written and verbal communication skills for recruiting, promoting, training, representing and reporting to various external and internal constituents are required. Demonstrate capacity for managing systems that maintain efficient, safe and hospitable environment for all constituents (guests, volunteers, partners, agencies). The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple tasks, respond quickly and calmly to situations, dictate rules clearly, resolve conflicts in a respectful manner, and motivate a team of volunteers.

The Ideal Candidate: Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of experience in working or volunteering with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Familiar with resources/referral for social services in Washington County.
  • Experience working with volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Flexible schedule and ability to travel to the shelter regardless of weather.
  • Work/volunteer history in community-based or nonprofit organizations.
  • 1 year of data entry (or related) experience.
  • Detail oriented, strong time-management skills, and experience with administrative duties, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • One-year case management and community outreach services
  • Experience in de-escalation training
  • Ability to set and maintain personal boundaries
  • Being flexible in relating to impromptu hypothetical situations
  • Ability to multitask with varying timelines
  • Ability to act from a proactive and preventative perspective vs. reactionary and/or crisis mode

Responsibilities - Essential functions of the job include

  • Opening and closing of the resource center.
  • Ability to drive and be on-site in snow, ice and rain.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and facility for cleanliness and security.
  • Order additional supplies as necessary and report facility issues.
  • Coordinate laundry, cleaning, and meals.
  • Provide oversight and some case management for the Safe Parking Program
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for various roles including check-in, food preparation and serving.
  • Develop systems for collecting volunteer feedback and suggestions to improve services.
  • Conduct the monthly volunteer advisory committee meeting.
  • Track required data for Washington County, Just Compassion, and the City of Beaverton, providing timely monthly reports that include guest and host documents, sign-in forms, volunteer hours, and a budget of shelter expenditures.
  • Establish a pathway for providing transition into housing to shelter participants and tracking effectiveness.
  • Enforce Resource Center rules and ensure volunteer and guest safety through strict compliance of on-site hours, no drug/alcohol allowed policy, and conflict resolution.
  • Report and maintain communication with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Work alongside of Just Compassion partners, service organizations, volunteers and guests to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the facility, provide excellent service and necessary resources to the resource center guests.
  • Respond effectively and appropriately in stressful and difficult situations.
  • Maintain HMIS data and update on weekly basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in one of the city’s priority languages (Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Japanese, Russian)
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public administration, psychology, sociology, conflict resolution, or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge, experience, or training in mental health work, crisis de-escalation, conflict resolution, and/or providing trauma-informed care.
  • Some supervisory experience

Schedule: Full time (40 work week)

  • Weekly: Tuesday, Wed, Thursday (9am-2:30) Resource Center.
  • Occasional: Attend meetings related to training meetings, representing Just Compassion, volunteer training, service contracts etc.
  • Weekly:
  • 15-20 hours for the Safe Parking Program
  • 5 hours for data (HMIS) entry
  • Occasional: Attend meetings related to training meetings, representing Just Compassion, volunteer training, service contracts etc.
