Reclaimed Wood Associate - Aurora Mills Architectural Salvage

Aurora Mills Architectural Salvage is a unique company different from the many businesses in the recycling, reclaimed and reuse field. Our mission is to provide the best in vintage and antique reclaimed/salvaged materials while strongly supporting historic preservation, sustainable building practices, and livable communities. With an eye on the future Aurora Mills is constantly working to identify, enhance and create new markets and new uses for re-purposed and re-useable items. We scour the countryside hunting for unique and scarce items to restore, re-define, or enhance any décor or space. Our clients include architects, commercial and residential designers, contractors, landscape designers, furniture makers, reuse creatives as well as the residential, home, loft or apartment owner.

Our highest priority is creating a positive, friendly, and helpful shopping experience for the Aurora Mills customer, whether the customer is visiting our web store, social media, or our main store. We have a lot of exciting new projects in the planning stages and have been growing faster than we can keep up. Job Title: Reclaimed Lumber Specialist

Primary Duties:

Assisting the Reclaimed Lumber Manager in:

-Sorting, stacking, and organizing reclaimed wood in our lumberyard

-Processing reclaimed wood (de-nailing, trimming)

-Assisting on deconstruction and salvage jobs

-Cleaning and minor restoration of antique and industrial artifacts

-Assisting in building crates and preparing items for shipping

Required Abilities:

-Must be able to show experience in the use of simple hand tools, such as but not limited to hammers, pry bars, and screw guns

-Experience with power tools such as a power miter saw, band saw, table saw, sanders, and chain saws are a plus (not mandatory) but an in house safety certification is required before use

-The strength and stamina to load and unload units of reclaimed wood-Must be able to read and follow work, and safety procedures, and policies

-Maintain a clean and organized lumberyard, workstation, and shop space- Ability to multi-task between many different projects, both large and small

Qualifications:

-Strong verbal, electronic, and written communication skills

-Basic math skills

-Basic computing skills

Bonus Qualifications:

-Certification as a RMI by the state of Oregon CCB

-Forklift or other heavy machinery operating experience and/or certification

-Knowledge of, education, or a passion for, historic preservation, historic architecture

-Work experience in general construction and restoration techniques or sustainable building practices

-Work experience in the salvage, deconstruction or demolition of structures

Physical requirements/Work Environment:

-Must be able to lift items up to 50 lbs. regularly and repeatedly

-Maneuver effectively around gravel lumber yard and multi-level warehouse

-Must have the ability to work in a non-temperature controlled warehouse

-Standing and working on hard surfaces for long periods of time

-Work conditions that will contain dust and particles from cutting various materials

-Noise levels that may be higher than the normal work environment

Work Schedule:

Full time position, 32 to 40 hrs. per week. The work schedule may include at least one weekend day a week with the possibility of both weekend days on occasion. A qualified candidate may also be expected to work before/after holidays.

Pay:

The hourly wage for the Reclaimed Lumber Specialist position is $14.00 to $17.00 and will be based on experience with architectural salvage, lumberyard organization, deconstruction, sustainable building practices, carpentry, or historic building restoration. Paid sick time, vacation, and holidays are available. Health insurance is offered after a probationary period.
