Westwood Farms is a family-owned hop and hazelnut farm located 45 mins south of Portland near Salem Oregon in the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We are preparing for a successful season and are looking to add 4 people to our team.
Our Crop Steward positions assist with farm field activities such as irrigation maintenance, pruning, weed management, trellis construction, and general farm labor tasks. These four positions range from entry level to experienced.
Job duties also include:
Run and fix irrigation systems throughout crop fields.
Prune, string and train hops, hazelnuts, and other perennial crops with trellis system method.
Perform construction and maintenance of trellis systems. Repair and maintain good condition of trellis systems, replace parts as needed to support continuous, quality crop development.
Wash and clean farming equipment and onsite facilities such as drying area, packaging room, storage areas, tool sheds, etc.
Participate in chemigation and fertigation applications as directed by management.
Perform regular mechanical and chemical weed management.
Harvest, dry, and package hops, hazelnuts, and other crops.
Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements and ensure a safe, compliant working environment.
Follow all governmental and third-party regulations and certification requirements to ensure environmental and food safety protections.
Individuals with agricultural experience may also:
Operate farm machinery for mowing, tillage, hauling, and other farm activities.
Schedule and maintain irrigation programs and systems.
Operate farm machinery for mowing and tillage activities, including operation of tractors and sprayers. Perform other heavy equipment operation.
Prune and train hops, hazelnuts, and other perennial crops with trellis system method.
These are full-time, hourly positions that report to the Sr. Farm Manager. These positions work outdoors for 8-10 hours/day with up to 12 hours/day in peak season. Reliable transportation to and from the farm and a valid driver’s license is required.
Level 1: This is an entry level position. Agricultural and/or irrigation experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided. Starting wage range: $15.50-$18.00
Level 2: This Crop Steward position requires one year of agricultural and irrigation experience. Starting wage range: $17.45-$19.50
Level 3: This experienced Crop Steward position requires 4 or more years of agricultural experience and a minimum of one year of irrigation experience (e.g., maintenance, installation, scheduling, etc.). This position also requires a minimum of 3 years of farm equipment operation experience (e.g., tiller, hop processor, harvester, etc.). Bi-lingual Spanish/English skills preferred. Starting wage range: $20.50-$22.00.
Other qualifications for all positions:
Ability to work on your feet and move across uneven ground from task to task across farm fields.
Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
Experience working with hops and hazelnuts is preferred.
