Position Summary:
Assemble, weld, and fabricate metal components following the methods required and/or as called out
on Customer’s Blue Prints. Additionally, provide technical support, project management, training and
skills leadership to the Fabrication department and its employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties as a Welder / Fitter “A”, plus the following:
1. Perform complicated layout and assembly work without direct supervision/assistance.
2. Design and fabricate fixtures and jigs.
3. Provide technical support and assistance to sales, engineering, and management in evaluating
potential jobs and interfacing with customers.
4. Project management of fabrication jobs, including occasional material take-off and shop floor job
estimates. Typical project management includes coordination, technical, planning, and supervisory
leadership to ensure quality work is effectively and efficiently produced.
5. Provide technical, coordination, job assignment, quality and procedural direction and leadership on
shop floor to Welder / Fitter “B’s”, “A’s”, and Mechanical Assemblers. Apply problem identification,
evaluation, and solving skills as required.
6. Working with supervision: train, evaluate, and certify skills level of subordinate crafts persons.
7. Perform and/or instruct as required methods for cambering, straightening, flattening, rolling, and bending.
8. Inspect final work for dimensional accuracy, perform die penetrate and magnetic particle testing as required.
9. Intermediate and final evaluation of jobs / projects with identification of areas to improve efficiency,
quality, costs, and work methods.
10. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
11. Certified welding skills a minimum AWS D1.1.
Physical Requirements/Environment:
1. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
2. Able to bend, stoop and climb.
3. Able to operate manual and power tools, forklift and overhead crane.
Education/Experience:
1. Must be able to read and interpret blue prints and welding, engineering and material specifications.
2. Must be proficient in MIG, FCAW, and tack welding.
3. Must have solid math, trig., dimensional and reading skills. Use English SAE and Metric tape and
micrometers.
4. Minimum two years welding and fabrication experience, with demonstrated proficiency in the above
areas, and full competency in all responsibilities and duties of the Welder / Fitter “A”.
