The job: This position is Thursday-Sunday and approximately 7 hrs a day to work primarily as a cashier which includes:
processing customer payments
helping direct customers
tracking income and returns throughout the day
end of day reconciliation of the cash register
Additionally, this position will support our office staff in down time with paperwork, online product management, and other related tasks.
COVID protocols: Currently, our store is only open by appointment to minimize the number of people in at any given time. All customers and staff are required to wear masks covering both nose and mouth. All service desks have windows in front to act as a shield. Sterilizing wipes are available for use and high touch surfaces are wiped down regularly. Please ask any additional questions you may have about COVID safety.
Job requirements:
Great arithmetic and financial math skills
Enjoys interfacing with the public most of the time
Able to organize and track daily sales paperwork
Reliable
Punctual
Able to function with minimal oversight and engage in useful activities
Comfortable asking questions and actively learning about our business and products
A little weird and tolerant of other’s weirdness
Compensation: We can offer $14 an hour with benefits. Hippo Hardware offers full medical and dental with no employee copay. Additionally we offer 40 hours of paid time off the first year and 80 hours of paid time off starting the second year.
About us: We sell new and used house parts including lighting, hardware, plumbing, and architecture. We have been a local family business for over 40 years. We are playful, frequently weird, and celebrate our lives outside of work as well as the work we do together. Hippo is an eclectic group of individuals all trying to row the boat together. Sometimes we go in circles, but all in all it’s worked out pretty well for us.
Our Building: Our building is lovely, old, dusty, full of stairs and uneven surfaces, and rarely temperate.
About you: We are looking for someone comfortable joining our herd of cats. While there are rules, but our environment is best for people comfortable working independently. We’re looking for a trustworthy person with a brain for finances as well as someone comfortable learning.
