Seeking an experienced bicycle mechanic for a shop local in Portland. Good pay for good experience. This is NOT a position for someone with no retail bicycle history or skills. Part time to start but there is plenty of work as the season ramps up.
The Best candidate:
- knows their way around old bikes and newer bikes
- this includes e-bikes or at least a willingness to learn
- Good communication with workers, clients, the boss
- healthy boundaries and expressive of needs
- Collaborative
- serious and persuasive when needed. Flexible and open to feedback when necessary
- ability to lift 30lb bikes in an EVT workstand
- understanding of lightspeed POS
- creative solutions with old bikes and new builds
- a morning person
About the shop:
- primary business is repair and service. Bikes are needed to be sold but it’s not the focus
- It’s a bicycle workshop that does a surprising amount of volume in a small footprint
- fully equipped workstations and an owner that likes to spend money on tools
- shop owner views mechanics as an investment and not an expense to manage
- firmly established in the neighborhood and isn’t going anywhere
- long industry history; deep knowledge, skills, and experience with the golden age of mountain bikes and at least the second or third wave of classic road bikes
- will work on any bike that gets through the door
There’s more. I could probably say it in less words. Send a work history with verifable references. Share your last epic ride and your favorite bike.
