Swiss Lathe Machinist

DPI Staffing is on the lookout for a talented and dedicated Lathe Machinist to join one of our esteemed customers in Wood Village, OR. This is your chance to bring your expertise to the table and step into an incredible temp-to-hire position with endless possibilities.

Pay Range $33-$40

Shift: M-Fri 5:00AM-1:30PM, with potential overtime.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is primarily responsible for proofing out programs created by programmers to ensure parts are accurately produced to meet print specifications. The role involves setting up machines, verifying initial production runs, and making necessary adjustments to programs and setups. The machinist will work closely with programmers to coordinate program changes and must be able to make minor modifications as needed to improve processes or ensure quality.

The machines included in this role are ABC Index, BNX, L32 Citizen Swiss, L16 Citizen Swiss, and Puma Doosan.

In addition to proofing programs, this position requires setting up machines and tooling to support production, performing quality checks during proofing, and ensuring that all setups meet operational standards. When program proofing tasks are not active, the machinist may be required to run machines and contribute to production as needed.

Strong attention to detail, excellent communication with programmers and team members, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Swiss-style CNC lathes (e.g., Citizen, etc.) to machine parts to precise specifications.

Program machines using conversational programming or CAM software.

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine job specifications.

Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure part quality and production efficiency.

Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.) to ensure adherence to specifications.

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on machines to ensure optimal functioning.

Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to resolve any production issues and improve processes.

Maintain accurate documentation of production runs, including time logs, part counts, and quality checks.

Ensure safety standards and protocols are adhered to at all times in the shop.

Requirements:

Proven experience as a Swiss Lathe Machinist or similar CNC machining role.

Strong knowledge of Swiss-style CNC lathes and tooling.

Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

Proficient in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.).

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Experience with CNC programming and setup is preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or CNC certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when required.

Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and occasional temperature changes.
