Portland State University’s Facilities and Property Management department is hiring a Mechanical Systems Maintenance Technician. The Mechanical Systems Maintenance Technician provides journey-level preventative and reactive maintenance support for various types of commercial building filters, strainers, cooling towers, valves, fans, and other HVAC equipment. With a small team of dedicated professionals, this position responds to work orders for routine and preventative maintenance requests, communicates operational instructions, and coordinates the work of external providers. The Technician makes decisions using standardized guidelines and reports to the Mechanical Systems Manager.
Successful candidates will demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills, as well as a sense of initiative. They will have the ability to work in the presence of the public while maintaining a professional demeanor keeping a safe, orderly and clean worksite. They will be collaborative, results-oriented, and enjoy working with a small group in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience maintaining, repairing, and fabricating parts for machinery, tools, and equipment such as automobiles, trucks, hydraulic systems, lift trucks, etc.; OR Completion of an approved Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship Program.
Experience in maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment, machinery, and physical plant operating systems
Experience safely using manual and power tools
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the diverse campus community and staff in the performance of work
Successful completion of a background check
State-issued driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing related work in an institutional or higher education environment
Certificate in Facilities Maintenance Technology
