Plans for Play It Forward Summer Songwriting Camp are underway and we are excited to show students from Portland Public Schools that they have the power to create
Music M.A.G.I.C.!
Teachers will help to run a multi-week summer camp that use activities in; Songwriting, Music Notation, Arts/Crafts, Organized Games and Kid Lead Performances to expand and enrich the summers of Portland Public School students
Play it Forward is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, and educated individuals who understand the basics of music and music education while also caring about equitable access to music for young children.
Job Description:
Music Teachers are experienced and expert instructors in fundamental music skills and group instrument classes. Teachers are dedicated to contributing to students' musical growth by empowering students and inspiring young minds through music.
Curriculum Implementation
Design and deliver engaging music lessons based on the core Play It Forward (PIF) "Notes and Lyrics" curriculum
Ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive music education experience for all students
Group Instrument Instruction
Conduct group classes in piano and ukulele
Create a supportive environment where students can learn, practice, and improve their instrumental skills
Creative Songwriting
Guide students in the art of songwriting
understanding musical structure
Express their creativity through original compositions
Performance Preparation
Prepare students for end-of-camp performances
Help students showcase their progress in songwriting and instrumental proficiency
Creative Documentation
Meticulously document the creation of the End of Summer Songwriting Book
recording student music and performances
photographing and archiving written work and activities.
capturing significant moments of student engagement and learning
Collaborative Planning
Work closely with Camp Coordinator and camp staff to ensure that music lessons are integrated with the camp's overall themes and activities, promoting a holistic educational experience
Job Requirements
Demonstrated proficiency in music theory, songwriting, and music history, with a strong ability to communicate these concepts to young learners.
Skilled musician with the ability to teach and perform piano/ukulele in a group setting
Exceptional organizational skills, with a commitment to documenting student achievements and contributions for camp records
Creative, adaptable teaching approach, capable of inspiring students with diverse learning styles and musical interests
Compensation:
$45/hour
Approx. 12 hours per week
