Part-Time Academic & Executive Function Tutor (Contract Position)
In-Person | Portland, OR | $32–$42/hour
The Parallel Project is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and adaptable educator to join our team as a Part-Time Tutor supporting middle and high school students (ages 11–18+). This role combines subject-area instruction with executive function coaching to help students succeed across all areas of their academic lives.
About the Role
This is a part-time, in-person position with variable hours based on student demand and your availability. You’ll provide individualized academic support in math, science, writing, and executive function. Most students require both content instruction and help with planning, task initiation, time management, and follow-through.
What You’ll Do
Provide individualized instruction in a variety of subjects, including math (through pre-calculus), sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics), and essay writing.
Support students with executive function skills such as organization, prioritization, and project management.
Prepare for and follow through on each session to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Develop rapport with students and families to build trust and engagement.
Navigate multiple school platforms (Canvas, Google Classroom, StudentVUE, etc.) to track and support student progress.
Track outcomes and measure student growth both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Participate in occasional professional development and mentorship opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees preferred.
At least 3 years of teaching, tutoring, or coaching experience (preferably in a professional setting).
High tolerance for ambiguity and strong problem-solving skills.
Solid understanding of school systems, educational software, and online learning platforms.
Skilled communicator with a professional, client-centered mindset.
Reliable, independent, and eager to learn—we provide training and ongoing support.
Availability for a minimum of 18 months.
Fully competent in teaching:
Math through pre-calculus
High school biology, chemistry, and physics
Essay writing and project-based work

Compensation
$32–$42/hour, based on experience and subject-area coverage
Starting as a 1099 contract position, with potential for a longer-term role
