Fulfillment & Customer Experience Associate – Part-Time (Portland, OR)

Company Overview

We are a small outdoor gear brand based in Portland, Oregon. We build lightweight, minimalist gear for the ultralight community - thru hikers, runners, skiers, bikepackers, and anyone who values simplicity and thoughtful design. Our mission is rooted in resisting the overbuilt: we make gear that strips away the unnecessary to help people connect more directly with the outdoors. We’re looking for someone to join our small team and take ownership of day-to-day shipping and customer support. We value reliability, authenticity, and a genuine passion for the outdoors in everything we do.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a Fulfillment & Customer Experience Associate to join our team on a part-time basis (approximately 20–30 hours per week). This is an in-person role at our Portland warehouse/office, with potential to grow into a larger position as our company expands. In this hybrid role, you will be the cornerstone of our order fulfillment process and the friendly voice (via email) of our customer support.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and excited about our brand’s mission. You’ll ensure that each customer receives their order on time and that every inquiry is met with a thoughtful, helpful response.

This role involves lifting and carrying boxes, staying on your feet for much of the day, and keeping the workspace clean and organized. Attention to detail and physical reliability are essential.

If you love the idea of wearing multiple hats in a small but growing outdoor brand, and you align with our minimalist and curiosity-driven ethos, we’d love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

Order Fulfillment: Pick, pack, and ship customer orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring items are correct, well-packaged, and shipped on time. This includes printing shipping labels and coordinating carrier pickups or drop-offs.

Quality Control: Inspect products for any defects or errors before shipping to maintain high quality standards.

Returns & Exchanges: Manage returns and refunds process – receive returned items, inspect and restock them, and process exchanges or customer refunds in our system.

Warehouse Organization: Keep our small warehouse clean, organized, and optimized. Assist with inventory management tasks like stock counts and organizing products, so we always know what’s on hand.

Customer Support (Email): Serve as a primary point of contact for customers via email. Answer questions about products, orders, and policies in a friendly, professional manner. Resolve any issues or concerns with patience and a problem-solving mindset, ensuring a positive customer experience.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with our team to improve fulfillment workflows and customer service processes. Communicate any shipping delays, inventory issues, or customer feedback to the team so we can continuously improve. Being a small company, you may also jump in to help with other tasks as needed – flexibility and teamwork are key.

Qualifications & Requirements

Reliability and Attention to Detail: You are a reliable, detail-oriented individual who can be trusted to get the details right every time. You show up on time and can consistently follow through on tasks without things slipping through the cracks.

Strong Organization Skills: You excel at keeping things organized – whether it’s neatly arranging products on shelves or managing multiple orders and returns. An ability to maintain an orderly workspace and systematize tasks is essential.

Communication & Customer Service: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You can craft clear, grammatically sound emails and convey empathy and professionalism to customers. A friendly, patient attitude is a must for helping customers and solving problems. (Prior experience in customer service is a plus.)

Alignment with Our Ethos: You share our love for the outdoors and appreciation for minimalism. You resonate with the idea of “function over excess” and are excited to represent a brand that values simplicity and curiosity.

Team Player & Self-Starter: Comfortable working independently to accomplish daily tasks with minimal supervision, and able to collaborate with a small team when needed. You’re proactive, quick to learn, and not afraid to ask questions or speak up if something seems off.

Basic Tech Skills: Experience with e-commerce platforms (especially Shopify) or shipping software (like Shippo/ShipStation) is a strong plus. You should be generally comfortable with computers (printing labels, updating order status, using email and spreadsheets).

Physical Ability: Able to perform light warehouse work, including lifting and moving boxes of products (up to 30 lbs). You can stand, bend, and move around during packing and shelving as needed.

Experience: 1+ year of experience in order fulfillment, shipping/receiving, or retail/warehouse work is preferred but not required. Likewise, any background in customer support will be helpful. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates the work ethic and mindset needed.

Compensation & Perks

Hourly Pay: $22–$26 per hour (DOE – depending on experience and qualifications).

Growth Opportunity: As a young company, we offer significant room to grow. There is potential to increase hours or transition to a full-time role as we expand. You’ll have the chance to take on more responsibilities and advance your career with us over time.

Team Culture: Be part of a small, passionate team where your work makes a direct impact. You’ll work closely with the founder and core team in a casual, yet driven environment. Your ideas and contributions will be valued in shaping our processes and customer experience.

Work Environment: Our workspace is a small combined office/warehouse in Portland with plenty of natural light and an informal atmosphere. We believe in work-life balance and flexibility - we’ll do our best to accommodate class schedules or other commitments when possible.

Employee Discount: Enjoy free or discounted gear! You’ll receive an employee discount on all our products, so you can gear up for your own adventures.

Learn & Develop: This role will allow you to learn the ins and outs of running a small e-commerce business, from logistics to customer relations. If you have interest in other areas (marketing, product development, etc.), you’ll get exposure to those too. We’re happy to help you develop new skills as we grow together.
