Owen Equipment, an Owen Company, is looking to hire a Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing team in Vancouver, WA at our Corporate Office. We are one of the largest Vactor and Elgin dealers in the United States and sell, service and rent sewer cleaners, vacuum excavators, street sweepers and related accessories. We are the largest supplier in the Western U.S. of replacement brushes and brooms for sweeping equipment. We maintain five full-service locations in Portland, Oregon; Kent, Washington; Spokane, Washington; Fairfield, California; and Salt Lake City, Utah and our customer base consists of the largest municipalities and contractors in the Western U.S. Our equipment is critical to keeping our streets and sewer systems clean, locating buried infrastructure during construction projects, and helping to build and maintain our electrical grid.

Salary: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually depending on experience.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will take on ownership over the Company’s indirect tax (sales, retail, excise tax, etc.) compliance requirements, and general business license management. We are looking for a solid professional and a great teammate who can grow with us as we continue to expand. A successful Senior Tax Accountant that has strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to work well on a team.

Responsibilities:

Manages all sales and local tax filing requirements across the company

Analyzes sales data to identify sales tax nexus and help ensure compliance

Becomes the expert on the Company’s sales tax compliance software - Avalara

Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of monthly journal entries related to sales tax accruals

Analyze and reconcile sales tax related liability accounts in a timely and efficient manner

Take the lead on state sales tax audits

Performs other Corporate Accounting ad hoc duties and projects as needed

Requirements:

3+ years of accounting, audit, or related finance experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

2+ years of indirect tax compliance and filing experience

Experience with Avalara sales tax compliance software preferred

Self-starter, hardworking, and highly motivated

Strong analytical, organization and time management skills

Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment and prioritize effectively

Excellent interpersonal skills with proven track record to build relationships

Advanced Excel skills (pre-employment assessment required)

Mid-market ERP system experience
