Veterinary Assistant
Locally owned small animal Veterinarian Clinic in Talent, OR is looking for a reliable, friendly, detail-oriented and motivated person to be apart of our dedicated team of professionals. Must be willing to work together with both doctors and other clinic positions to better help our patients and their humans. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. All team members work hard to help each other with daily tasks to ensure we all make it to the end of the day happy and reassured we made a difference in the lives of our patients.
The veterinary assistant helps the veterinarians with patient exams, animal restraints, treatments, help monitor and care for hospitalized patients, maintain hospital inventory, prepare and administer prescriptions, perform in-house lab testing, and help educate clients on treatments and patient care. Experience in the animal care/veterinary field is preferred. Team outings and get-togethers are a regular occurrence.

Primary Responsibilities
Obtain and document accurate medical concerns/pertinent health history for the doctor during exams
Communicate effectively with clients
Provide accurate information to clients concerning fees, hospital policies and procedures.
Educate clients regarding preventive healthcare and vaccination recommendations.
Be comfortable discussing treatment plans and testing recommended by the veterinarian.
Demonstrate warmth and professionalism in all interactions with clients.
Exercise compassion and care for all patients.
Restrain animals in a safe, efficient and compassionate manner during examinations and procedures.
Help obtain any lab samples that may be needed to treat patients.
Ensure all procedures, chart notes and charges are correctly documented into the medical record.
Prepare and label specimens appropriately for both in and out house testing
Be comfortable administering patient treatments/medications as directed by the doctor
Help the team manage clinic inventory during day to day use
Accurately dispense prescription medications as directed by a veterinarian.
Appropriately disinfect exam rooms and kennels between patients
Restock, clean and straighten exam rooms after client/patient visit
Demonstrate initiative and teamwork in everyday duties.
Ensure that all work stations are organized and clean.
