Central Oregon has some of the best water recreation destinations around: Deschutes River, Tumalo Creek, Paulina Lake, East Lake, Lake Billy Chinook, High Cascades Lake, and many more - but they can pose dangers to those that may not have much swimming experience. That's why Bend Park and Recreation is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team of dedicated Swim Instructors and Lifeguards!
Being a swim instructor is a rewarding way to give back to the community. You'll be teaching basic water skills to youth and community members while being able to choose your flexible schedule and using our facilities at no cost. Don't have previous swimming or teaching experience? No worries! We will put you where you're comfortable. In fact, many of our swim lesson students are looking to grow their basic swimming skills so lessons would be held in shallow water.
Similarly, Lifeguards provide a safe learning environment for swim lessons and allow patrons to freely enjoy our pools during open recreation swim. They are an essential part of keeping our facilities open and accessible for the community, and are given the opportunity to learn life-long skills that can be used in just about any job (like first aid, CPR, and risk management). Again, no experience needed - we're looking for people who have a passion for keeping others safe and who enjoy connecting with community members and facility visitors.
Both swim instructors and lifeguards are required to complete a training course, HOWEVER there is no cost to complete the training AND you'll receive hourly payment to attend.
While programs are already scheduled, you'll have flexibility to choose which classes and shifts you work. You'll have the option to work as many hours as you have available!
All positions are eligible for an employee recreation pass which allows employees to use all of our facilities for free (gym, pools for open swim, Pavilion for ice and roller skating, sauna, and more), and gives employees discounts on select recreation programs. Some positions may be eligible for additional benefits such as health insurance and vacation paid time off.
