Position Summary:
The Paramedic (EMT) is a critical role within our air medical program, responsible for assisting with the safe and effective transport of patients via fixed-wing aircraft. This individual will provide medical care during air transport, collaborate with flight crews, and ensure patient safety. The role requires a solid clinical background, the ability to work under pressure, and the desire to make a difference in emergency medical transport.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Provide emergency medical care and advanced life support during air transport, including stabilization and treatment of critically ill or injured patients.
Administer medications, perform procedures, and use medical equipment as needed to ensure patient safety and care during transport.
Collaborate with physicians, flight crews, and ground medical teams to provide the best possible care for patients.
Monitor patient condition throughout the flight, making necessary adjustments to care as conditions change.
Ensure patient care is delivered in accordance with established protocols, policies, and best practices.
Quality Improvement:
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and program performance.
Analyze patient care data, flight logs, and incident reports to identify trends, safety concerns, and areas for improvement.
Conduct regular assessments of program activities, including patient care, equipment usage, and medical protocols.
Training and Development:
Participate in training programs to maintain certifications and ensure readiness for all types of medical transport scenarios.
Assist in training and mentoring junior medical staff, contributing to their professional development.
Engage in continuous learning to stay up-to-date with the latest medical protocols, equipment, and aviation medicine.
Safety:
Prioritize the safety of patients, crew, and aircraft at all times by adhering to established safety protocols and aviation regulations.
Ensure that all flights are compliant with state and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices for air medical transport.
Participate in regular safety drills and training exercises to ensure readiness for emergency situations.
Monitor the operational environment for potential hazards and take proactive measures to mitigate risks.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Medical Director/Medical Program Manager to ensure optimal patient care and smooth operations.
Coordinate with external healthcare providers, emergency medical services (EMS), and hospital teams to ensure timely and appropriate patient care transitions.
Communicate effectively with all team members, including pilots, medical staff, and company leadership.
Qualifications:
Education and Licensure:
High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
Current, unrestricted Paramedic (EMT-P) certification in good standing.
Valid CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications are required.
Additional certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) are preferred.
Experience and Certifications:
Extensive experience as a paramedic, EMT, or in emergency medical services (minimum 3-5 years preferred).
Experience in emergency, critical care, or trauma care is highly desirable.
Prior experience with air medical programs or in-flight medical care is a plus.
Knowledge of aviation medicine and flight physiology is an advantage, but not required.

Ability to perform medical procedures and interventions in an aircraft environment, often under pressure.
Ability to work efficiently in a team setting and collaborate effectively with flight crews and other medical professionals.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clinical judgment.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
