Fleet Technician - Commercial Truck Tires Specialist (Springfield)

Position:
As a Fleet Technician Commercial Truck Tires Specialist at M. O. Nelson & Sons, you will play a vital role in optimizing the performance and safety of our fleet. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing tires on our diverse range of trucks and trailers, including log, curtain, lowboy, chip and pick-ups. Your expertise will be critical in enhancing vehicle performance, extending tire lifespan, and promoting overall fleet efficiency while minimizing downtime due to tire-related issues.
Primary Responsibilities:
Installation and maintenance of tires and wheels; repairing, rotating, and inflating tires; attaching and re-balancing wheels – using Shop equipment to ensure optimal tire performance and longevity.
Responsible for routine tire inspections and air pressure checks and to assess wear, damage, and pressure levels, when trucks are parked in the yard to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Diagnose and repair tire-related issues promptly, including punctures, leaks, and tread damage, minimizing vehicle downtime.
Monitor and maintain accurate tire inventory, ensuring an adequate supply of stock for efficient operations.
Document all services performed, including tire condition reports and maintenance records.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents or injuries.
Collaborate with the Truck Shop management team to identify and address tire-related concerns.
Provide excellent customer service by promptly addressing and resolving tire-related inquiries and concerns from drivers and operations personnel.
Operating service vehicles to perform offsite and emergency road services.
Keep up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new tire technologies to continually improve tire maintenance processes and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
Applicants MUST HAVE a minimum of 1-years’ proven experience working on commercial truck tires (all others need not apply) or in a similar role within the Diesel truck industry is essential.
Understanding of commercial truck tire brands, models and sizes.
Strong knowledge of tire maintenance, repair, and replacement procedures.
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Offer contingent upon passing preemployment drug screen.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency in using tire-related tools and equipment.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to accurately diagnose and resolve tire-related issues.
Ability to read and interpret tire specifications, including size, load index, and speed rating, to ensure proper tire selection.
Ability to understand and comply with tire repair and replacement standards.
Ability to safely and efficiently work with related tools and lifts.
Effective communication and customer service skills to interact with drivers and operations personnel.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical stamina and the ability to handle the demands of lifting heavy tires (45-75 pounds) and operating equipment; as there is frequent bending, twisting, kneeling and continuous squatting, reaching, walking and standing.
