Grades: B22-B24

B22: $25.64- $38.46/ hour (Technician I)

B23: $28.28- $42.42/ hour (Technician II)

B24: $31.11- $46.67/ hour (Technician III)

Pay dependent on qualifications and in accordance with Oregon's Pay Equity Act.

Overview of Position:

The City of Springfield has an opening for an Environmental Services Industrial Pretreatment Technician. The position assists with the performance of a variety of field and technical duties related to industrial waste monitoring within the Industrial Pretreatment Program including scheduling, sampling, processing analytical results, permit writing, communication with industry representatives, and conducting site surveys. It may assist in emergency spill response and investigation, and wastewater and stormwater pollution investigations.

Training & Experience:

The City will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. Such a way to meet minimum qualifications could include:

Associate degree in the field of physics, chemistry, biology, environmental studies, environmental engineering, or related field, and; experience related to water quality, industrial wastewater treatment processes, commercial, residential, and industrial wastewater dischargers and their business processes

Grade B22 (Technician I): 0-2 years of general experience (entry-level experience performing basic and routine supportive tasks such as less complex permit writing and decision making)

Grade B23 (Technician II): 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience (journey-level experience performing the full range of duties that includes understanding established department and program policies and procedures)

Grade B24 (Technician III): 5 or more years of experience (advanced- level experience, greater independence, greater responsibility, and technical expertise such as representing the City in field situations and providing guidance to other staff)

License, Certifications, & Special Requirements:

Oregon Driver’s license by time of appointment

Vaccination for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B are required within 30 days of hire

Physical Requirements:

Position may be light or medium work depending on assignment.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents are subject to travel.
