We are accepting applications until the position is filled! Send your cover letter and resume to lauren@camptamarack.com
We are looking for staff who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment to support our mission of youth development through mentored outdoor experiences. Our Instructors have the willingness to learn supported by our training, continual coaching, and professional development. Some of our parameters for success include being accountable (readily owning your mistakes and growing, following through with your responsibilities, and working with initiative), being reflective (seeking to understand others' perspectives, seeking feedback with a desire to improve and learn, and assuming positive intentions), and being collaborative (exploring a variety of perspectives, and asking questions when problem solving).
Camp Tamarack is an equal-opportunity employer. We welcome the unique contributions that you bring to our program including your culture, ethnicity, race, gender identity and expression, nation of origin, age, languages, veteran status, religion, ability, sexual orientation, and beliefs. An Overview of The Position Within Our Programs:
Spring and Fall Outdoor School: We start our fall season with 1 week of staff training to support you in fully preparing to be a staff member at Tamarack! Our Outdoor School program is a state-funded outdoor experience for Oregon 5th and 6th graders during the school week. 5th and 6th-grade students spend 4- 3 days at camp and high school volunteers supervise the cabins. Our Instructors do not directly supervise the cabins of campers overnight, that is the responsibility of the high school volunteers. Staff support the programming as a whole- they lead science lessons, recreation activities such as canoeing, archery, crafts, and other camp-specific activities as assigned, help with daily camp chores, and run nightly campfire songs and skits. Staff are paired with 2-5 high school volunteers that they mentor for the week. Campers and high school volunteers arrive Monday mornings and stay until Friday early afternoon. Instructors work from Mondays to Fridays.

Winter Classroom Outreach: In combination with our classroom teaching program, we have partnered with Bend Parks and Rec. after school program to provide full to part-time from Jan. - March. Instructors visit classrooms to teach science and team-building activities and then work before and after school hosting after school programs. These programs are not on-site at Camp Tamarack but based in classrooms all throughout Central Oregon. We do not provide housing during this time, but provide a small housing stipend to help staff cover monthly rental fees.
Living and Working Conditions:
- Employment is temporary and subject to the school/camper participation schedule. This position works in an overnight camp setting.
- If Instructors choose to live on-site, they live in shared staff quarters.
- Housing is provided for the entire employment season- you don’t have to move out on the weekends or in between sessions- your space is your space for the whole season. Housing is shared with other employees in assigned cabins or bunk rooms.
Shift Type: Weekly salary, paid monthly
