REGISTERED NURSE ? GASTROSITE OF SERVICE:

The work to be performed under this contract will be at Gastro and Endoscopy Clinic/Procedure Room, 88th Medical Group, Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.

HCWs shall receive notification two weeks prior to the reassignment to another location with a 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

Degree: Associates or Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Experience:

Minimum two years of experience in Gastroenterology within the last four years.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in conscious sedation and post/anesthesia recovery.

Must have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience to acutely ill pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate.

Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for professional practice; a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations; administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care; a wide range of medical disorders and conditions as appropriate, as seen in critically ill patients; and preventive health schedules, procedures, processes, and education methods.

Licensure:

Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse as required.

Shall provide evidence of continued professional education consisting of 10 contact hours IAW the HCWs State board of Nursing requirements.

If the HCW State Board of Nursing does not have contact hour requirements, at a minimum, the HCW shall complete 20 contact hours every 2 years and participate in continuing education programs to update and/or maintain skills and knowledge to meet annual requirements.

Certification:

HCW must have and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Hands on BLS course is required.

U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.

Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.

Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Procedures include assisting with gastroenterology procedures, as needed, such as EGDs, Colonoscopies, prepping patients for procedures.

Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.

Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.

Ability to perform clinical nursing duties such as telephone consults through telephone triage, and reporting patient?s pathological procedure results.

Ensure safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety in accordance with regulatory agencies, infection control policies and process improvement initiatives.

Preferred but not required to have experience with ERCPs and scope care.

HOURS:

The outpatient clinics in the MTF operate from 0730-1630 Monday-Friday, the Emergency Room and Inpatient Clinics are 24/7 Operations.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLSMust be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential.
