DefinitionThese positions will be located either at the Dublin Road Fleet Garage and/or the Watershed Fleet Garage at Hoover Dam. Under immediate supervision, is responsible for assisting fully-skilled mechanics in making repairs to a diversified fleet of cars, trucks, and other similar equipment; performs related duties as required.Examples of Work(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Performs preventive maintenance on motorized equipment by checking fluid levels, checking lights and safety equipment, lubricating equipment, changing oil, and filters;
Assists in removing packer blades, hydraulic lines, and components;
Assists in repairs to brake systems, street sweeper and snow removal equipment, firefighting apparatuses, and medic vehicles;
Assists in locating and repairing trouble in electrical systems;
Assists in aligning wheels;
Assists in making repairs on various types of light equipment such as push mowers, wood chippers, weed eaters, sprayers, or generators;
Uses a variety of equipment such as ammeters, voltmeters, gauges of various sorts, and other testing equipment;
Applies and removes decals to new and used vehicles;
Drives to various locations to pick up repair parts as required;
Maintains and prepares records and reports as required;
Drives to various locations to assist with making repairs as required;
Operates a computer and related software needed;
Cleans work area after completion of job;
May make road tests to locate defects in motor vehicles;
May drive commercial motor vehicles that require a commercial driver’s license.
Minimum QualificationsOne (1) year of experience performing minor automotive repair work, or completion of a trade school program in automotive mechanics.Possession of a valid driver’s license.By the completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Class A commercial driver’s license allowing the operation of vehicles with air brakes.
