DescriptionLeidos is currently seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist to support the Occupational Health Group at the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. This position is responsible for industrial hygiene activities in support of research operations by applying subject matter knowledge of ventilation controls and calculations, gas detection systems, IAQ response (investigation and remediation) and conducting real-time industrial hygiene monitoring.US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successful obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required.Primary Responsibilities:

Manage the Local Exhaust Ventilation program to ensure established standards are maintained.

Perform industrial hygiene monitoring in laboratory and industrial settings. Develop sampling plan and perform air monitoring for a range of chemicals and hazardous conditions. Recommend engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE. Provide reports detailing findings.

Investigate employee indoor air quality concerns and work with Facilities and Maintenance personnel to remediate concerns.

Perform fume hood surveys following ASHRAE 110 guidance and assess local exhaust ventilation using the ACGIH Ventilation Manual.

Participate in facility design reviews of scientific research, including: design, build-up, modification, and troubleshooting of ventilation systems for research utilizing combustible gasses, fuels, cryogenics. Using the ACGIH Ventilation Manual, offer recommendations for new ventilation design and perform calculations to recommend design requirements.

Support facilities and research personnel with placement and verification of gas detection systems for toxic and otherwise hazardous gasses. Calculate potential for oxygen deficiency and chemical gas buildup in case of accidental compressed gas/cryogen release.

Attend regular reviews of scientific research projects; identify Industrial Hygiene-related hazards and recommend/implement corrective actions.

Respond to emergencies involving ventilation systems, unknown chemicals, fires, gas leaks, toxic gas alarms and support emergency responders in identification and troubleshooting of hazards.

Deliver in-person and online trainings to groups of up to 30. Class participants can include student interns, PhD researchers, and various personnel.

Perform comprehensive annual program reviews including lessons learned recommendations for improvement.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial hygiene or Science, and 5+ years of experience performing industrial hygiene monitoring and/or ventilation design/surveys.

Experience managing Industrial Hygiene Programs that include large tracking/inventory databases for programs such as: indoor air quality, hearing conservation program, chemical hygiene, laboratory safety plans, ventilation, biosafety, nanomaterial, and asbestos/lead.

Ability to write and critically review technical reports for all field work conducted. (e.g. executive summaries, process background, means/methods, results, discussions, and recommendations)

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

Experience building and maintaining relationships with research organizations.

Ability work on multiple projects simultaneously and pivot between projects easily.

Proactive with a solution-oriented mindset towards health and safety.

Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Capable of carrying and climbing a ladder and lifting up to 30 pounds.
