A professional association seeks an editor to lead the launch of a new journal as well as serve as associate director with responsibilities in marketing and outreach. The American Real Estate Society is the global leader in real estate thought leadership, has a current portfolio of five journals, a membership of leading academic and industry thought leaders, and an international reach. The Associate Director will be responsible for overseeing the manuscript submission process and coordination with the peer review process and faculty serving as Journal editors. The Associate Director will also work closely with the Director in conceptualizing, developing and implementing the dissemination of real estate news, research and events to further ARES thought leadership role as well as lead the campaign to advance journal impact.
Job Duties:
Oversee manuscript submission process
Lead editorial projects including marketing and communications copy, blog posts, social media, e-newsletters, etc.
Manage deadlines and workflow, communicating with Faculty Editors and authors to ensure projects stay on track
Collaborate with association team to advance Journal impact rankings
Stay abreast of publishing trends as well as publishing best practices, including issues such as open access.
Assist with the publication process
Support the manuscript awards and recognition program
Be able to shift between big-picture strategy and marketing and developmental editing and copyediting.
Skills/Qualifications:
Strong writing and editing background with ability to meet deadlines
Masters or Ph.D preferred; combination of Bachelors and experience considered
Interest in real estate, landscape architecture, architecture, planning and the built environment a plus but not required
Strong graphic design skills a plus
Ability to work with wide cross-section of authors and industry constituents
Ability to work independently with significant organizational responsibility
The position is based in Athens, Ohio, home of Ohio University. Will consider applicants for both full-time and part-time roles and will remain open until filled. Potential opportunity for the roles to be split into two half-time positions to accommodate faculty employed part-time.
