The Freedom Terminal Services division is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Repair Technician at our Palermo, ND location. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Position Overview:

This position is located in Palermo, ND. The Lead Repair Technician position is a working leadership role that assists their Supervisor with ensuring the proper and consistent meeting of requirements for their department including, but not limited to, quality and efficiency. Candidate is expected to assist in all areas as needed performing a wide range of tasks to aid the overall TEAM, and be responsible for the employees, equipment and materials needed to make that happen consistently.

Relocation Expenses: TBD

Work Days: Monday-Friday (Some weekends required)

Salary: $25/hr

Essential Job Functions:

Coach, mentor, motivate and lead multiple employees in all operations for their department(s) and act as a back-up to the department Supervisor in their absence.

Ensure safe working habits and safe working conditions by monitoring and redirecting employees and their work areas.

Support the Quality Assurance Department efforts by ensuring compliance with all OSHA, AAR, FRA, FRS and customer requirements including the proper completion of all related documents and the corresponding repairs (in process and prior to final QA).

Perform random 5S inspections of their department(s).

Make recommendations to their Supervisor concerning their department with the intention of resulting in continual process improvements while maintaining established quality and safety standards.

Monitor inventory levels of all required materials and equipment and work in conjunction with their Supervisor in an effort to ensure maintaining proper inventory control as well as waste due to excess inventory or equipment.

Mentor all new employees and assist their Supervisor with employee performance evaluations for their department(s).

Participate in all internal, external and customer audits regarding the repair department(s).

Document and submit corrective discipline recommendations to their Supervisor as needed.

Perform daily Tool Box meetings for the employees in their department(s).

Coach, mentor, motivate, and lead multiple employees in all operations for their department(s) and act as a back-up to the department Supervisor in their absence.

Ensure their work areas are tidy, organized with all tools and materials in their place at the end of each shift as per 5S guidelines.

Other Skills & Ability:

The ability to be self-motivated and meet expectations with minimal supervision.

The ability to work within a TEAM environment, establishing good working relationships at all levels.

The ability to comprehend and apply AAR, FRA, Customer and FRS requirements.

The ability to meet all job performance requirements including (but not limited to) teamwork, quality, housekeeping, safety, attendance and SOP’s.

The ability to organize time and priorities in such a manner as to provide the most efficient and effective job performance for their TEAM.

The ability to assist on a Mobile Repair call-out during regular time, overtime and weekends as required.

Education Requirements:

A High School diploma, GED or equivalent is preferred.

Basic reading, writing and math skills are required.

Proficiency with basic computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel is desired.

The ability to communicate professionally and clearly in writing as well as orally both in public and over the phone is required.

Prior experience in a labor intensive, mechanical repair or production environment is required. (Railcar repair environment is preferred)

Physical Requirements

The ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely.

The ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.

The ability to work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE.

The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.
