Substation Protection & Controls Engineer

Timmons Group is currently seeking a Substation Protection & Control Electrical Engineer/Designer to join our Electrical Design Group located in our Charlotte, NC office location. Responsibilities include preparation of P&C substation project design, studies, and technical documents in the support of the design of substation projects throughout the country.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to high-voltage utility substationsPerform detailed design, including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit, and cable sizing/routing, and selection of substation P&C equipmentMust be able to take a written scope document and develop a detailed P&C substation design and drawing package using good engineering judgment and industry/client standards with minimal oversightOccasional travel will be requiredSkills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited programFive (5) or more years of experience in utility substation designEngineer in Training Certification / Professional Engineer registration strongly preferredExperience in 15kV through 138kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standardsExperience in 230kV thru 500kV substation design is a plusMicrostation (V8 or newer) or AutoCAD (20016 or newer) is a plusExperience performing P&C design in AutoCAD ElectricalExperience filling the substation P&C design engineer role for multiple concurrent projects (brownfield and greenfield projects)Strong preference for those withExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsCapability of solving difficult programs that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria
