Review the position below and apply today.At this time, Dominion Energy cannot transfer or sponsor a work visa or employment authorization for this position.This position does not offer relocation assistance.Job SummaryThe Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Company’s natural gas distribution system.This position: installs natural gas pipe in ditches manually digs around various utilities pressure tests steel and plastic natural gas lines participates in the repair of third-party damage to natural gas lines and various types of gas leaks performs location of natural gas lines and facilities completes pipe maintenance activities installs test charts sets up common Department of Transportation approved work sites effectively flags traffic safely drives a company vehicle maintains the vehicle inventory Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required, annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and hands-on components to ensure those who perform covered, safety-sensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained, knowledgeable, and qualified.This position reports to the Company’s Sanford Operations Center in Sanford, North Carolina.There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceTrainee-Construction & Maintenance (0 - 6 months experience)Pipe Layer VI (at least 12 months experience)Pipe Layer V (at least 18 months experience)Pipe Layer IV (at least 30 months experience)Pipe Layer III (at least 42 months experience)highest level an outside applicant can be hiredThe factors to be accorded weight in determining the appropriate job level for the applicant are relative knowledge, skills, abilities, efficiency, experience, education and special training with respect to the skills required for the job opening. Knowledge and skill with common hand and power tools (i.e. shovel, screwdriver, pipe wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, etc.). Ability to be fit tested for self-contained breathing apparatus equipment. Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions are critical. Ability to work as a team member within a diverse team. Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key. Availability for overtime, as needed. Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday, as well as in the evenings and some weekends, when on-call. Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Sanford area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call. Occasional heavy lifting up to 80 lbs. independently.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience: Good mechanical aptitude. Flagger experience and/or certification.
