Work is related to maintenance and repair of State-maintained roads within Rockingham County. Supervise crew of subordinates in the maintenance and construction of highways and other duties assigned. Position will supervise roadway maintenance crew working in and around heavy traffic, heavy equipment and with power tools. Applicant must be able to maintain a close team environment or work independently, as needed. Responsibilities include supervision of roadway maintenance crew involved in drainage maintenance, patching shoulder repair, paved and unpaved roadway maintenance, vegetation management, snow and ice removal and emergency response to roadway maintenance needs. Must be able to install and maintain work zone control plans. Complete daily work reports and conduct daily tailgate meetings. Position is required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes. Safety toe footwear is needed for this position. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used

Experience in Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices
Experience in roadway maintenance and repair in one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, asphalt patching, snow and ice removal, crack sealing, full depth patching or pothole patching
Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew
Additional Expectations:Work includes reading and interpreting plans, determining personnel, equipment and material needs to complete assigned maintenance tasks. Employee is responsible for making appropriate adjustments to plans to meet field conditions, planning, monitoring and ensuring safety standards are adhered to, daily documentation of personnel, material and equipment usage, responding to public inquiries, attending training and continuing education classes to keep up to date on all state and federal regulations and maintain certifications in all required areas (ie: traffic control and environmental stewardship). The Employee must operate a motor vehicle, have a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License and safely be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. Safety toe footwear will be required for employment. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions and have a Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
