This unit must enforce all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, as well as, the University rules and regulations. In addition, this unit must patrol and secure the grounds of North Carolina Central University by responding to calls and/or complaints, performing preliminary, investigations of criminal and civil conduct incidents, record and refer, complaints, complete and file reports on all incidents.Primary Purpose of PositionReporting to the Assistant Director of Public Safety for Communications and Security Technologies, the incumbent will be responsible for making moderate to significant improvements to processes, security systems, or security products to enhance the performance of the security access control system, physical security equipment projects, and system installations for assigned areas. This will include addressing the daily operation of the campus access control system, assisting with process improvement, assessing campus-wide needs and providing recommendations, and staying abreast of current and future technology trends within the physical access control environment.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to demonstrate functional understanding of server hardware and software administration, basic scripting techniques applicable to the systems being administered. Ability to make recommendations for enhancements or changes to improve system performance. Ability to provide support to clients pertaining to optimizing systems performance, troubleshooting systems problems, and analyzing usage and systems load issues of a moderate technical nature. Ability to apply vendor patches, enhancements, and modifications to existing operating and utility systems software. Proficiency in system analysis and implementation and knowledge of documentation requirements and skills in technical writing. Competence in performing duties with speed and accuracy; to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods. Ability to practice independent judgment while performing analysis and making determinations Preferred knowledge of security systems such as C-Cure and door access controls. Must possess the ability to learn new technologies and participate in the implementation of new and existing solutions that support the strategic technological goals of the university. Must be able to plan and organize daily activities and tasks, pay attention to details, work independently or with minimum supervision, and provide technical leadership to other technical staff. Must be able to collaborate with various university constituents, both technical and non-technical to achieve optimal implementation or system enhancement results and to research, analyze and implement solutions to resolve issues. This will include submitting access request for approval by various campus building supervisors, and processing access request according to police department processes.Required Competency Client/Customer ServiceDutiesResolving product/service issues, troubleshooting problems, and providing ongoing technical assistance to customers needing access to buildings. Providing duties of help desk support (https://www.liveagent.com/academy/customer-service-department/) and product service knowledge.Required Competency Communication - Verbal/WrittenDutiesIncumbent will be responsible for communication with leadership, and across campus departments regarding access control processes and procedures. They will also work with stakeholders to identify additional needs as it pertains to access control, and communicate solutions based upon existing issues.Required Competency Knowledge - TechnicalDutiesLearn new technologies and participate in the implementation of new and existing solutions that support the strategic technological goals of the university. Knowledge of documenting system data and skills in technical writing.Required Competency Technical SupportDutiesProvides technical support for the access control system by applying update patches as needed.
