QA/QC Technician for Watertown and Boonville, NY

Position Overview

The QA/QC Technician is responsible for the testing of hot mix asphalt and aggregates to ensure adherence to federal, state, and/or customer specifications. This position works closely with asphalt plant personnel, construction foreman and governmental agencies. This is an entry level position working directly for the QC QA Manager.

Responsibilities:

Support the Barrett safety culture and other Company strategic initiatives

Read, understand, and have a good working knowledge of the basic specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction / aggregate / concrete / asphalt industry

Assess effectiveness and maximize productivity and quality opportunities that lead to continuous improvement

Communicate across all departments to enhance the teamwork essential to consistently producing quality products

Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary

Through completion of required NYSDOT paperwork and certified shipment certifications

Ensure that accurate test results are reported daily and on time to supervisor

Sieve analysis test to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications as required

Ensure all quality control operations and activities are conducted in conformance with company policies, regulatory agencies and acceptable working practices are in compliance with standards

Recommend measures to improve quality control methods, equipment, performance, service, safety and quality of products

Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups

Operates company vehicle to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary

Sampling Aggregates, Bituminous paving mixtures from stockpiles/plants and haul units

Sampling liquid asphalt from storage tanks

Fabrication of marshall and superpave gyratory specimens

Gravity determination of compacted bituminous mixtures and aggregates

Performing required equipment maintenance and calibration

Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience:

0-2 years of technical quality control experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required; associates degree in related field preferred

0-2 years of experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Control testing aggregates, asphalt and concrete or in some of the field listed preferred

0-2 years with Knowledge of QC/QA program, NYSDOT procedures and applicable reference and testing material manuals and specifications governed by federal, state and local testing agencies, to include DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards

Have the ability to become NYSDOT certified within 1 year

Basic computer skills including use of MS Office Products

Valid driver's license and ability to maintain clean driving record required

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) required

Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance

Frequently exposed to all weather conditions

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel

Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)

Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Frequently required to stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain

Work performed indoors and outdoors; noise exposure varies from quiet to loud

Frequent exposure to working around moving equipment and machinery

Frequent exposure to dust, airborne particles and chemicals
