Skilled Labor – Construction / Mechanical / Equipment Operation

New York, Watertown, 13601 Watertown USA

Vacancy caducado!

We are looking for skilled laborers that are well rounded. Many of our small but highly skilled crew wear many hats, which keeps our work very interesting! We are currently dredging thanks to the warmer than average winter, and are looking to hire help ASAP.

Please read this description thoroughly before responding. We are looking for a well rounded individual to become an important part of our team. It is not necessary to meet all of our criteria, as we will be selecting the most qualified individuals for these positions.

1. Work Environment

a. We are a small company that operates 3 waterfront locations in Rochester. Two locations are next to each other and the other is about 8 miles away.

b. We maintain our own equipment, buildings, and facilities.

c. Occasionally we execute our own improvement projects or do work for local government or local private entities. This could include construction, construction on the water, and dredging. We sometimes assist or support larger companies on large projects.

d. Although not directly in the construction field, it resembles our equipment and working environment. We have loaders, excavators, tractors, mobile lifts, barges, pushboats, trucks, trailers, a hydraulic dredge, a crane, and varied other pieces of construction equipment.

e. Flexible and ever changing. Although our primary marine business is seasonal and cyclic, we take on improvement projects in an effort to slowly redevelop waterfront facilities. Work from year to year varies greatly with different projects and improvements so it should be very interesting for flexible and open minded people.

2. Routine Activities

a. "Yard work" includes hauling and re-launching boats, maintenance of docks, land improvements, snow removal, lighting, electrical and water services to docks.

b. "Mechanical work" includes: AC & DC electrical systems, hydraulic systems, Gas & Diesel engines, HVAC, repair & winterization of water systems, transmissions, and marine propulsion systems.

c. "Welding" includes everything from re-plating 100' long barges to very minor equipment repairs. We also fabricate tools, gates, dock piers, and even install seawalls. We are recently finished building a small twin screw 600hp pushboat.

d. "Facility maintenance & improvement" includes all aspects of construction, rehabilitation, and remodeling to structures and outdoor systems. Plumbing, electrical, framing, drywall, finishing, flooring, siding, exterior, roofing, communications, etc.

3. Work Schedule

a. Full Time, 40 hours per week, overtime sometimes is available. (Winter hours could be reduced or flexible if you desired or had another business such as snow plowing)

b. 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a ½ hour unpaid lunch. Occasionally working one weekend a month when special projects arise.

c. Two weeks written notice is required for vacation requests.

4. Employee Responsibilities and Eligibility Requirements

a. Be fit enough to work an 8 hour day and able to lift common construction tools and materials.

b. Have your own vehicle to enable you to move from location to location as necessary. A Pickup truck or a vehicle with a towing hitch preferred. Reliable transportation and dependability is critical as we have a small workforce.

c. Have your own hand tool set to complete common tasks.

d. Valid Driver's license (a CDL is a plus but not required, we currently have no CDL vehicles)

e. Membership in our random drug testing program with the DOT. (we pay fees)

f. Employees must have good situational awareness. Working around equipment or the water requires care and attention to your actions and your surroundings. We want to maintain our good safety record. Distractions like iPods and mobile phones are not used while working.

g. We assess and train crew-members on tasks or topics they are not familiar with before commencing any work or using any equipment, we are looking for experienced applicants, with two years minimum experience working in a similar position although we would prefer applicants with at least 10 years. Our other crew members have 30 years service with this company.

h. As for our entry level position any prior experience is beneficial but not required.

5. Compensation, Advancement, & Professional Development

a. Compensation will be determined by the applicant's skill set, work experience, medical or dental insurance needs, and paid time off requested.

b. Advancement may seem limited in a small company, but we expect significant growth and a few retirements in our 2-5 year outlook.

c. Professional Development is an area we have been fairly progressive. Our technicians had attended many weeks of factory service training for Mercury, MerCruiser, and Volvo Penta products when we offered repair services to our customers. Two staff members hold USCG Captain's licenses and attend training for this and to obtain other certifications as needed. We also employ certified welders or work with licensed electricians or plumbers as needed.
