Position Description
Title: Assistant Caretaker
Reports To: Head Caretaker
Summary of Position:
Coordinate and perform the landscaping and grounds maintenance for property in Wellesley Island, NY. Shall perform a variety of tasks, including any combination of the following: garden planning, propagation, planting and weeding, mulch, fertilize and water flowering plants, trees and shrubs. Duties may also include mowing, edging, and trimming during the growing season, snow removal during the winter, other duties include painting, refinish work, light carpentry, equipment and boat maintenance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
▪ Coordinate planning for vegetables and herb garden:
▪ Survey owners to determine the types of vegetables, herbs and annuals they require for the gardens during the upcoming growing season
▪ Create a plan for the garden and submit to Management Committee for approval
▪ Upon approval, complete inventory of seeds, nursery plants and supplies for purchase and submit to Caretaker
▪ Propagate seeds and maintain overwintering plants
▪ Planting, fertilizing and other and other gardening jobs as needed
▪ Mows and trims as needed
▪ Regular weeding and watering as needed
▪ Harvests vegetables and herbs and distributes to the various households as needed
▪ Keeps all related equipment clean, maintained and stored properly
▪ Shall perform other duties as needed
Qualifications:
▪ A minimum of three years of gardening/groundskeeping experience
▪ Master gardener certification is a plus
▪ Must be able to communicate clearly with managers and owners
▪ Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds
▪ Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
▪ Be able to work from ladders and staging with no fear of height.
