Req Number 135839Job DescriptionPrepares and assists patient for examination. Performs diagnostic tests and techniques using a variety of ophthalmic instruments. Cleans and maintains equipment and supplies.Job Responsibility
Assists patient to examination rooms and chairs; transfers and transports handicapped patients, as needed. Assists professional staff during patient examinations. Records patient's medical history, chief complaint, etc. Prepares lab supplies for cultures.
Performs lensometry, by measuring the power of patient's glasses, Schirmer tear test, etc.
Operates a variety of special instruments and performs diagnostic techniques such as operating the Humphrey automatic refractor and performing keratometry; utilizing the basic concepts of the field of vision and its measurements by means of the Goldmann and/or Humphrey perimeter; utilizing screening methods for glaucomatous and neurological visual field defects. May operate corneascope, under supervision.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Stocks, maintains, and orders supplies, as needed. Prepares instruments for sterilization including the sterilization of contact lenses. Stores instruments and apparatus in assigned areas.
Performs related duties, as required.
Job Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Certification from an accredited program for Ophthalmic Assistants, required.
OR
Minimum of one (1) year experience operating ophthalmic equipment such as Humphrey and Goldmann Perimeter, lensometer, automatic refractor, keratometer, required.
Knowledge of ocular pharmacology, required.
Mathematical ability, required.
Ability to operate all ophthalmic equipment and perform kertometry and lensometry, required.
Ability to communicate effectively.
