New York Life is a relationship-based company and appreciates how both virtual and in-person interactions support our culture.Position SummaryThe successful candidate for this position in Underwriting, will be required to examine, review, evaluate, classify and rate applicants in order todeterminecompliance with company guidelines, underwriting criteria, philosophy, and policies and procedures. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and productivity levels established by management. Provide leadership to lower level underwriters in their file review and underwriting in accordance with established protocols and underwriting criteria.ResponsibilitiesReview and evaluate LTC Solutions applications andsupportingdocuments to ensure accuracy and completeness
Using established protocols, underwriting guidelines and procedures,analyzerisk, ensuring decisions are consistent withcorporateguidelines
Approves, declines or rates the application within the established criteria, while utilizing clinical judgement, within the prescribed guidelines
Assess risk of Long-Term Care while using medical and cognitive information while processing at or above the prescribed productivity level established by management
Demonstrates knowledge to underwrite multiple products accurately within the protocols specified for each product.
Quickly but carefully read,analyzeand interpret medication on lists, medical records, phone and in-person assessments, cognitive test scores, and MIB and Prescription profile results
Determineif additional documentation is required and request additional documentation if appropriate
Review and respond to Appealed decisions
Review and process Plan Change requests
Answer inquiries regarding eligibility, policies, underwriting guidelines, and compliance procedures.
Demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills both internally and externally, that includes use of all systems and communication within systems, appropriate wording of letters, professional verbal communication with team members, Agents, Clients, and Field force.
Prepare responses to special circumstance letters to applicants, Agents, and medical professionals
Complete any special projects assigned
ExperienceUnderstanding of risk factors relating to morbidity risk management and long-term care insurance products and riders
Medical Terminology or medical evaluation
Strong skills in communication both oral and written
Proficient PC Skills
Time Management Skills
Strong organizational skills and good math aptitude
Ability to perform in high stress environment
Ability to work independently on multi-projects.
QualificationsBachelor’s Degree Preferred, BS, RN or equivalent insurance industry experience.
Minimum of 5 years LTC underwriting experience including working with Agents
Acceptable Alternatives are disability, health, or life insurance underwriting experience
