Position Title: Independent Preservation/Taxidermy Assistant – Small Pet Studio

Compensation:
Contractor compensation begins at $20 per hour during initial supervised work, with an increase to $25 per hour for independent contract assignments.
Project Overview:
Niche studio offering preservation for cherished companion animals under 20 pounds. We are seeking an independent contractor to assist with detailed preservation work on a project basis. This role requires strong attention to detail, steady hands, emotional maturity, and deep respect for the human–animal bond.
Scope of Work:
Preparing and positioning small pets for freeze-dry preservation
Supporting detailed grooming, anatomical support, and finishing work
Assisting with painting, eye placement, and other fine detail restoration
Maintaining cleanliness in the immediate work area during contracted tasks
Following project-specific instructions and handling animals with dignity and care
Assisting with packaging or documentation for completed pieces; inventory and ordering supplies.
Ideal Background:
Experience in fine arts, animal care, vet tech, grooming, conservation, or taxidermy
Comfort working with deceased animals in a respectful, professional setting
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow detailed guidance
Capacity to handle delicate materials and work with focus and precision
Access to reliable transportation and availability for on-site studio work as needed to complete contracted projects.

This is a contractor role (1099) and not a position of employment.
No benefits, insurance, or tax withholdings are provided. Contractors are responsible for their own insurance, taxes and business expenses.
Work is assigned per project and based on studio needs and contractor availability.
Artistic or anatomical portfolios are welcome but not required.
