We are a growing telecom company seeking a reliable and motivated Field Intern to support our site inspection team. This is a great opportunity for students or entry-level candidates looking to gain hands-on experience in the telecom field.

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Generator Preventative Maintenance & Mechanic Technician to service and maintain emergency backup power generators located at cell phone tower sites across the NYC metro area. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel and/or natural gas generators, a strong understanding of preventative maintenance practices, and a commitment to ensuring continuous operation of critical telecommunications infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on diesel and/or natural gas-powered generators ranging from 10kW to 250kW.

Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair generator systems, including engines, alternators, batteries, fuel systems, and automatic transfer switches (ATS).

Conduct load bank testing and fuel quality checks to ensure operational readiness.

Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service reports using mobile devices or reporting software.

Respond to emergency service calls during power outages or generator failures (on-call rotation may be required).

Monitor site safety and comply with all OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local environmental regulations.

Drive to remote cellular tower sites, often located on rooftops or in rural areas, and perform maintenance in various weather conditions.

Coordinate parts procurement and communicate service needs with internal teams and vendors.

Ensure all tools, vehicles, and equipment are maintained in good working condition.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required. Technical school or military training in diesel mechanics, electrical systems, or related field preferred.

2+ years experience with generator PM or mechanical/electrical systems (Cummins, Generac, Kohler, CAT, etc.).

Familiarity with DC systems, control panels, ATS, load testing, and remote monitoring systems a plus.

Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics and service manuals.

Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; DOT medical card may be required.

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces.

Preferred Certifications (not required):

EGSA (Electrical Generating Systems Association) Certification

OSHA 10 or 30

NFPA 70E / Arc Flash Safety Training

EPA Section 608 (Refrigerant Handling)

Work Schedule & Compensation:

Monday–Friday, with rotating on-call availability for nights/weekends

Competitive hourly wage or salary (based on experience)

Overtime pay for emergency call-outs

Company vehicle, fuel card, tools, and PPE provided
