The Craft Salon is a vibrant arts and crafts studio in Kensington, Brooklyn. We offer after-school programs, holiday and summer camps, adult workshops, and more. Our basement ceramics studio provides a welcoming and creative space for kids' after-school programs and adult ceramics classes.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a Ceramic Studio Assistant to support our lead teacher in fostering a fun, safe, and engaging environment for students. This part-time role involves assisting with class preparation, studio upkeep, and student interaction. Because this position includes working with children and handling school pickups, reliability and strong communication skills are essential.

Schedule & Pay:

Tuesdays & Thursdays: Afterschool ceramics class (2–6 PM)

Saturdays: Adult open studio (2–6 PM)

Additional hours may be available.

Pay: $20/hour

Assistants have access to the studio space to create and fire their own work outside of class times.

Key Responsibilities:

Studio Maintenance:

Recycle and prepare clay, mix glazes, and assist with glazing student work.

Load, unload, and fire kilns (with supervision).

Maintain a clean and organized studio, including tools, supplies, and pottery storage.

Class Prep & Assistance:

Prepare and organize materials for each class.

Support students during lessons, guiding them through project steps and fostering creativity.

Monitor and encourage positive classroom behavior.

Assist students throughout the art-making process.

Engage students in activities during free time and assist with clean-up.

Qualifications:

Must be 18+ and able to pass a background check.

Experience working with children and ceramics (training on studio equipment will be provided).

Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

Comfortable lifting heavy objects (e.g., clay bags, kiln shelves, etc.).

Positive, reliable, and team-oriented attitude.

This role is a great fit for someone who is passionate about ceramics, enjoys working with both kids and adults, and thrives in a creative, collaborative studio environment.

To apply, please provide a cover letter and resume.
