Vision Therapy Assistant / Administrative Assistant (Park Slope / Gowanus)

20-25 hours per week -

Niche optometry practice specializing in vision therapy seeking a dynamic, highly organized, reliable individual, with strong prioritization, multi-tasking, and people skills to work in a part-time role with both administrative and patient care responsibilities.

As the sole employee, we are seeking someone who is efficient and adaptable to keep the office running smoothly on a day-to-day basis, while also assisting with the larger vision of growing the practice. This is a long-term position (minimum 1 year commitment) with room for growth, and the opportunity to build a rewarding career serving the community.

During non-therapy hours, administrative responsibilities will include: coordinating patient care via patient portal, returning phone calls, invoicing and billing, helping to write medical reports and correspondence, organizing and maintaining a tidy environment, and general office duties.

During busy patient care hours (after school and evenings), the role will include hands-on patient care, assisting and documenting patient encounters into electronic health records, and once trained, working with patients.

As a vision therapy assistant, you will work one-to-one with patients, coaching and motivating them through exercises and games that will strengthen their visual skills. Vision therapy helps our patients overcome visual problems that are impacting their ability to perform well in school, work, or life. No previous vision therapy experience is required, but experience with working with young children and/or in a medical, rehabilitation, or educational setting is preferred. On the job training and educational materials in vision therapy will be provided.

The ideal candidate must be able to learn and apply medical/technical information quickly, be comfortable with math, and quick to pick up on new technology. They should also enjoy working with others and have a naturally empathetic and people-oriented disposition, and be able to function as part of a team and independently, in a fast-paced but fun small business environment
