Seeking Gal Friday for my home / home-office
My Mom (RIP) used to use the phrase “Gal Friday” to describe the jobs she had in her 20s
(which was in the 1940s).
I think it’s quaint and it’s what I need:
“A female assistant who is capable of many different types of tasks”
I am a retired man who is legally blind.
And I need help with the aforementioned “many different types of tasks”.
I am married and my wife has much of the housework under control.
But her English is still a work in progress.
So, I need to hire someone that can help with reading various things to me.
PLEASE READ COMPLETE AD AND, IF INTERESTED, WRITE TO TELL ME HOW YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN
HELP WITH THE TASKS MENTIONED. I KEEP GETTING 1-LINE E-MAILS SAYING "I'M INTERESTED"
THAT'S GREAT! BUT WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
That could be an online article about nutrition, the instructions to a new piece of
electronic gear or the directions on my cat’s flea repellent medicine.
A typical day might include assisting with my morning workout (setting the treadmill to the proper levels) various reading, dealing with whatever might come up in a typical day for most people. Trip to the store, occasional trip to the Post Office, returning something to Amazon at the UPS store
I’d like someone to be able to work with my wife on new, low carb recipes that
we can get online. And some cleaning and miscellaneous housework
would be part of this job as well.
This position is sponsored by my health insurance.
So, it is on the books and paid weekly by direct deposit.
There is no flexibility in method of pay.
Please don’t ask about cash or being paid in any other way - not off the books, under the table around the corner, in someone else’s name, etc.
Being able to read, write and speak English fluently is essential.
Skills with MS Excel are a plus.
I’d like to explore creating some YouTube content.
So, if you have any experience / skills that can help with that, also a plus.
Let’s please be respectful of each other’s time.
Think about all the above before contacting me.
DON’T Contact me if:
1. If you are allergic to cats or not comfortable around them.
2. If you cannot work on the books.
3. Most importantly, if you would not be comfortable working in someone’s home.
I’ve been hiring people from CL since 2003.
Some work out great! And some people say:
“I can’t come to your house. You know how things can be on Craigslist”.
If you’re not comfortable with people on Craigslist, don’t look for a job on Craigslist!
It’s really just that simple.
Please put some thought into this beyond the idea that you need a job and that I’m advertising one.
Please look at the map and estimate your commute.
If your commute is 4 hours, you probably won’t want to do this for very long.
Schedule:
I get sponsored for 38 hours a week of assistance.
I typically like to use them over 4 days of the week.
(NO weekends or evenings, please).
I find that doing 4 slightly longer days can benefit us both.
i.e. if we know we’re not going to meet on Thursdays, we each
know that we have a dependable day each week on which to schedule
other things. Also, 4 days vs 5 is 1 less day that you have to travel.
If interested, please contact me and tell me how you might be a good candidate for this position.
Please don't ask me to call you. I need an assistant because I'm already so busy.
I am up and at the computer at 5AM. Great time to answer e-mails. Not a good time for phone calls
