OverviewThe Systems Engineer sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external systems. Develops and maintains all systems, applications, security and configurations. Recommends upgrades, patches, new applications and equipment. Provides technical support and guidance to users. Has knowledge of commonly-used Information Technology concepts, practices, and procedures. Creates instructions and establishes guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works autonomously as guided by the IT Manager. Typically reports to a team lead or manager. Responsibilities
Promptly and professionally replies to IT service requests
Assists in maintaining network infrastructure of 120+ workstations and 80+ servers
Work hours Monday – Friday 8 – 5 with 24/7 on-call schedule
Develops standards & procedures necessary to install & maintain efficient & effective computer information processing systems
Monitors servers, replication and mail routing; Creates user accounts and maintains security levels; Monitors existing messaging infrastructure, ensuring proper working orde
Manages the deployment, maintenance, support and upgrade of servers
Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems; Performs system backups and recovery
Participates in computer systems disaster recovery plan maintenance and implementation
Adheres to all CBPS (RCLS) policies and procedures
Must be congenial to other customers, clients, employees at all times
Shares job knowledge, skills and ideas with other employees
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or Software Engineering or equivalent work experience
1-2 years’ experience in desktop support
2-5 years systems support
Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2003 support
2 years pc hardware support (A+ or experience)
Advanced Microsoft Office. Visio, Excel. Network Drawings and RMON statistic documentation.
Networks Management: SNMP, What’s Up 2005, Foundry IronView, PRTG
Ethernet and CAT 5/6 cabling
Foundry switch gear knowledge
Microsoft Windows 2000, XP (MCP or experience)
Able to work under supervision
Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems
Familiarity with disk management tools (chkdsk, defrag, etc.)
Familiarity with HP EVA SAN architecture.
Building and maintaining hardware on PC’s
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Approximately 20% Travel
Required to lift networking and server gear that can weigh up to and sometimes exceeding 80lbs
