Job DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTION: The mission of the New York Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for overall organizational development and implementation of the New York City Police Department's Equity and lnclusion programs and strategic framework. The goal of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is to foster equity through policy and regulation, both in and out of the workplace, and to increase supplier diversity for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). This is accomplished through transparency and accountability by applying nationwide best practices with our internal and external stakeholders. The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Investigate allegations of discrimination, which include, but is not limited to, allegations based on race, color, religion, sex, national original, age, disability, or genetic information.
Conduct interviews with complainant witnesses and respondents.
Analyze evidence and gather documents.
Liaise with other units for guidance and information gathering, including Deputy Commissioner, Department Advocates Office, and Deputy Commissioner, Legal Matters and Professional Standards Bureau.
Oversee, evaluate and provide legal guidance regarding investigations of allegations of employment discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation; this involves case work management and prooing.
Research and keep up to date regarding changes to Federal, State, and City Law as it relates to Human Rights Law, ADA Law, and Civil Rights Law.
Assist with the Reasonable Accommodations Unit and Training and awareness Unit with legal guidance and policy recommendations.
Drafting agency policy documents to be in compliance with aforementioned laws and regulations.
Attend trainings - Learn Federal EEOC statutes, DCAS policy, Trauma Based interviewing/Special Victims.
Assist in writing updates to internal policy guides, as it relates to EEO and Equity
Write memorandums of law regarding policy changes or legal analysis of EEO policy and its application.
Review and write internal department policy.
Representing the Department in Article 78 proceedings regarding Freedom of Information Law requests, as well as
before administrative bodies on a variety of employment law matters.
Appearing at administrative hearings before the City of New York's Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, as well as in New York State Supreme Court.
Assisting in the development of policy, procedures and guidelines for data retention and dissemination.
Searching, retrieving, reviewing, notating, redacting and disseminating documents and videos in response to various legal requests from the public and from government agencies.
Assisting the New York City Law Department in the defense of police action and employment discrimination claims, including processing requests for preservation of evidence in e-discovery matters.
Participating in enforcement operations, including the execution of closing orders under the nuisance abatement law.

Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment. In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
