Job Summary:
JED Engineering and Land Surveying, PC is seeking a qualified Marine Inspector to support critical resiliency infrastructure projects throughout New York City’s coastal and waterfront areas. The Marine Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of construction activities involving piers, bulkheads, seawalls, revetments, marine foundations, and related structures. Projects are typically designed to strengthen NYC’s defenses against sea level rise, storm surge, and climate change.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily field inspections of marine construction activities (e.g., pile driving, dredging, concrete placement, structural steel, fender systems, cofferdams).
Monitor and document contractor compliance with approved design plans, specifications, permits (e.g., USACE, NYSDEC), and safety protocols.
Observe and report on environmental mitigation measures (e.g., turbidity control, protected species observation).
Coordinate with engineering teams, construction managers, environmental monitors, and city agencies.
Generate detailed daily inspection reports, field logs, photo documentation, and punch lists.
Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal maritime and construction codes.
Participate in progress meetings and assist with schedule monitoring and contractor performance assessments.
Support quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes including material sampling and review of test results.
Respond to field conditions and recommend corrective actions when deficiencies or safety hazards are identified.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
5+ years of relevant marine construction or inspection experience.
Familiarity with marine infrastructure (piers, wharves, cofferdams, bulkheads, etc.).
Working knowledge of NYC and NY State environmental and building codes, and marine permitting processes.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
Proficiency with inspection documentation tools (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Office Suite).
Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality standards.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites across NYC’s boroughs.
Preferred:
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
NICET, AWS-CWI, NACE, or other relevant certifications.
Prior experience on resiliency or climate adaptation projects.
