Job Title: School-Based Recess Coach (K–8)
Location: Various NYC Public/Private Schools (Monday–Friday, School Day Hours)
Position Type: Part-Time, Seasonal (September–June)
About The Program
We turn recess into a platform for growth, designing games and activities that teach teamwork, resilience, and leadership. In partnership with schools, we spark curiosity and creativity in K–8 students as they blossom into confident scholars, imaginative artists, and empowered athletes.
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced, caring Coaches to lead fun, safe, and engaging recess activities for grades K–8 in school-based settings each school day. You’ll design and facilitate games that promote teamwork, confidence, and healthy habits, helping students unleash their energy, build social skills, and embrace a positive school culture.
Key Responsibilities
Plan & Lead Activities: Create age-appropriate, inclusive recess games that balance physical skill-building with life-lesson themes (e.g., cooperation, resilience).
Supervise & Engage Youth: Ensure all students play safely, follow rules, and participate respectfully; use positive coaching to encourage effort and sportsmanship.
Maintain Safe Environments: Monitor playground equipment and fields; enforce emergency protocols and preventive-discipline strategies.
Collaborate & Communicate: Partner with school staff to coordinate schedules, share observations on student behavior, and adapt activities to school needs.
Professional Development & Collaboration: Attend seasonal planning meetings, meet regularly with school staff to discuss student progress, and complete all required annual and in-house trainings.
Required Qualifications
Prior experience coaching or leading youth recreational programs (ideally K–8).
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and an authentic passion for working with children.
Ability to manage groups of 20+ students in active, outdoor settings.

Availability Monday–Friday during school recess hours (approximately 10:00 AM–2:00 PM, schedule varies by school).
Training & Certification Requirements
All Coaches must complete the following during their employment:
American Red Cross CPR/AED Certification
NYS OCFS Child Abuse Prevention Training
CDC Concussion Awareness & Prevention
NYS Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
In-House Trainings covering worksite roles, emergency protocols, preventive discipline, and positive coaching techniques
