Job description

Position Overview:

We are a growing business in the marine industry, seeking a hands-on, experienced boat technician to lead our expanding team while actively participating in daily service operations. In this dual role, you will lead a team of technicians while also performing a wide range of technical tasks, including engine repairs, electrical work, boat handling, and engine installations. Your expertise in four-stroke outboard engines, 12-volt electrical systems, boat electronics, and installations will be essential as we continue to grow. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Supervise, coach, and mentor a team of boat technicians while leading by example. Provide hands-on assistance in daily tasks, troubleshooting, and repairs.

Engine Maintenance, Installation & Rigging: Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on four-stroke outboard engines. Handle engine installations and rigging, ensuring proper alignment, connections, and functionality. Ensure all engine systems are properly tested and ready for use.

Electrical & Electronics Expertise: Diagnose and repair 12-volt electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, and charging systems. Install and configure marine electronics, such as GPS systems, radar, depth finders, and navigation equipment. Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting and integration is highly preferred.

Boat Hauling & Launching: Oversee and perform the safe and efficient hauling and launching of boats using travel lifts, forklifts, and other boat-moving equipment.

Work Flow Management: Organize and assign tasks for the team, ensuring all projects are completed on schedule and to the highest standards.

Customer Interaction: Communicate directly with clients to provide updates, recommendations, and estimates on repairs and services.

Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and marine industry standards.

Inventory & Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance and organization of tools and equipment, ensuring everything is in proper working order.

Problem Solving: Troubleshoot technical issues, identify solutions, and provide guidance to the team in resolving complex mechanical and electrical challenges.

Independent Work: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality.

Teamwork: Work well within a group, contributing positively to team dynamics and ensuring efficient and collaborative operations.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on boats, with a strong background in four-stroke outboard engines.

Technical Skills: Proficient in 12-volt electrical systems and troubleshooting. Experience with boat electronics and installations (GPS, radar, depth finders, etc.) is a big plus. Prior experience with engine installations and rigging is required.

Equipment Handling: Experience operating travel lifts, forklifts, and other boat-moving equipment.

Leadership: Experience with the ability to lead and motivate a team while being hands-on in the work.

Licenses: A clean, valid driver’s license is required; any additional boating certifications or related training are a plus.

Attention to Detail: Ability to work meticulously and manage multiple tasks while ensuring quality and safety.

Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with team members and customers.

Self-Starter: Proactive and able to work independently with minimal oversight while maintaining productivity and quality.

Team-Oriented: Strong ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment, helping to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of marine electronics, including GPS, depth finders, radar systems, and autopilots.

Familiarity with a wide variety of boat types and brands.

Ability to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical issues.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
