Master Mechanic - Structural - Locksmith/hardware

Job Summary:Perform advanced level tasks involved in maintenance, repair and renovations of campus buildings, systems, and equipment to include, but not limited to doors, windows, floors, ceilings, partitions, office equipment/furniture; cut keys; repair, install and maintain locks, catches, handles, openers, closers, panic bars, electronic access control systems, and appropriate hardware. Maintain efficient operation of the lock shop and accurate records of key codes and lock configurations. Select materials and techniques used to maintain campus facilities and equipment. The position is considered to be essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work.Job Responsibilities:

Review blueprints, building codes, specifications, and sketches; compile material list(s) and determine work details and procedures. Fabricate structural components casework in accordance with plan and field measurements. Order material as required for the project and approved by supervisor.

Train and instruct assigned work crews; inspect completed work to ensure compliance with established standards or required specifications.

Cut keys for all College facilities to include operating key cutting equipment and machines. Re-key locks for security and maintenance purposes; perform emergency repairs to locks and open doors as appropriate and as conditions warrant. Distribute all College keys and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all keys and locks.

Install locks, catches, handles, openers, closers, panic bars and all required hardware to suite intended use of the doors or other equipment. Install, repair, and maintain automatic/electronic doors, specialized equipment used in the operation of entryways such as card readers, and door-mounted closures and floor closures. Perform preventative maintenance and install, replace, or refurbish hardware.

Maintain and repair locks on doors, desks, file cabinets, and display cases to include disassembling locks and replacing worn tumblers, springs and other parts. Perform door inspections to maintain state and federal compliance standards.

Install, repair, and maintain specialized equipment used in the operation of handicap entrances to include automatic door opening equipment.

Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment to include key blanks, lock parts, knobs and cylinders, hinges, closures, and related hardware used in the installation and repair of doors.

Perform minor ceiling repairs and replace damaged ceiling tile(s). Build and repair, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim; hang sheetrock.

Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment; participate in making minor repairs to keep equipment operational; inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work. Assist in ensuring security of vehicles, tools, and other equipment.

Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and maintain a clean work area. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.

Participate in review and evaluation of existing modes of operation and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.

Participate in workshops, seminars, training sessions and staff meetings as directed.

Periodically serve as member of the structural team on-call rotation.

Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: High school diploma and a minimum of 5 years or 10,000 hours work experience as a carpenter or locksmith; in-depth knowledge of Ithaca College facilities; extensive experience in cutting keys, repairing locks, repair and maintenance of electronic lock systems, installation, repair and maintenance of electronic/automatic doors, panic bars and specialized equipment used in the operation of handicap entrances; ability to read schematics and blueprints and perform repairs and installations; familiarity with regulatory codes; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to lift and carry 80 lbs., experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing/measuring devices; a valid Driver’s License and maintain standards set forth by the Ithaca College Office of Risk Management. , Successful completion of certified automated door operation and repair, such as, AAADM, is preferred.
